Donald Trump’s road to victory in the 2016 presidential election began in March 2011, when he first publicly questioned the origin of Barack Obama’s birth. He soon became the leading voice of the racist “birther” conspiracy theory, forging an unbreakable bond with a large portion of the Republican base that would later propel him to the presidency.
Then-Illinois state Senator Barack Obama may not have known it at the time, but his 2002 speech at a Chicago rally opposing an invasion of Iraq set his course to the presidency. Six years later, Obama won his party’s nomination over more experienced Democratic competitors who had voted for the war, and then he bested a Republican military hero in the general election.
So, who took the pivotal steps in 2023 that set them on the path to the presidency in 2028?

With the obvious caveat that the nominee may be someone not now in the picture, the article briefly discusses the strengths and weaknesses of:
Democrats - Kamala Harris, Gretchen Whitmer, Andy Beshear, Roy Cooper, Wes Moore, Josh Shapiro, Gavin Newsom, J. B. Pritzker, John Fetterman, Raphael Warnock, and Pete Buttigieg.
Republicans - Nikki Haley, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Greg Abbott, Brian Kemp, Matt Gaetz, Byron Donalds, Elise Stefanik, J. D. Vance, Josh Hawley, and Katie Britt.
Now, before you get all apoplectic and say that someone you dislike has no chance of winning, ask yourself what you would have thought at this stage about Obama's chances (2003) or Trump's chances (2011). Would they even have been on your radar? A lot can happen in five years!
If there's a name on the list you don't even recognize, you might find it worth your time to get a quick summary.
We can also ask who's missing. For the Republicans, maybe Mike Pompeo, if he's Trump's running mate? For the Democrats, maybe Adam Schiff, if he wins next year's Senate race?
Not a single one,
All were Junior Democrat spoilers.
Well, the GOP is going to nominate SOMEONE. Any name you’d like to add to the list? “The Twenty-Second Amendment gets repealed and Trump wins a third term” seems a bit unlikely.
On the Democratic side, maybe I should’ve added Katie Porter, too. Either she or Schiff will win the California Senate seat and will have some national profile, although with Newsom and Harris also interested, the California lane will be a bit crowded.
Cool, somebody got a time machine for Christmas.
Best gains this year for 2028 - Newsome, easily.
Vivek rose from obscurity to the clarion voice of anti-establishment conservatives.
Simpson's was able to get it right, even before 2011. Not only regarding DJT being POTUS, but him even coming down the escalator, that it would be from right to left, and that there would be "paid" sign holders on the balcony overlooking said escalator.
In 1971, nobody would have predicted Jimmy Carter as the Dem. nominee for 1976.
In 1967, who would have predicted George McGovern would be the Democrat nominee in 1972?
In 1983, was anyone touting Dukakis for the Democrats?
Heck, in 2015, when we learned that VP Biden wasn’t running in 2016, who among us would have predicted he was the man for 2020?
A lot can happen in politics in a five year span.

“Simpson’s was able to get it right, even before 2011.”
LOL, amazing foresight! They got the color of his suit wrong but, as you say, everything else is right.
In 1963, months after he gave his “last press conference” and ABC TV had broadcast his “political obituary,” who would have believed that Richard Nixon would win the White House five years later?
Won’t be any presidential wannabe in 2028 if democrats get their way only the central committee.
Xi nods
The nefarious Jack Smith and his bogus case against the former President is splintering and falling apart before our eyes. The upcoming rulings by the Supreme Court will shatter whatever tattered phony claims remain on the broken structure of the leftist illegal case.
Donald J. Trump is now primed to return to the seat of power from which he has been criminally deprived by the Dem forces of evil.
Christie had the biggest…
