The United States Navy is significantly increasing its presence around Yemen, with 43 warships currently positioned in strategic areas such as the Gulf of Aden, the Indian Ocean, Bab al-Mandab, and the Red Sea. Moreover, over 50 additional warships are reportedly en route to join the coalition. This heightened naval activity raises concerns about escalating tensions in the region.

Amidst these developments, a hacking group with reported links to Israel has claimed responsibility for a cyberattack that allegedly disabled a substantial portion of gas pumps across Iran. According to the group, the attack affected approximately 70% of Iran’s gas stations. The cyber assault adds a digital dimension to the geopolitical landscape, further complicating the situation in the already tense Middle East.

The Iranian backed Houthis are attacking American ships with older drones and missiles. This ordance is not equipped with up to date stealth and guidance technology. Thus far American warships have had no trouble destroying these weapons before they reach American targets. However this should not give the Pentagon a false sense of security. These weapons are becoming modernized, far more stealthy and accurate. Also they are becoming incredibly simple to use even by uneducated combatants. If Iran obtains and has the stupidity to supply the Houthis with these newer systems, it would be risky to have 43 ships in that area. In fact its time to acknowldge that in this new technological time, the era of naval surface combatants is over.

I get that the sea lanes must remain open. I also get that failed leaders (like Biden) like to start wars to distract the populace. So a Gulf of Tonkin event is a real possibility.

Either flatten every single Houthi base in Yemen or pull out.

Shutting off the gas pumps is a fun move: Find a way to piss off the average Iranian. Make it tough on the Mullahs when they go home at night and they have to listen to their wives and kids bitch about the lines at the gas stations.

Next, they should take out Netflix and PornHub.

People need to remember what we’ve been told. Once the Russians win in Ukraine (check), the revanchist Soviet Union will be on the march. We need these ships in the Baltic in order to save Europe.

Yes.

I saw Old Ironsides leaving Boston harbor last night.

Still fighting Muslims after 225 years.

Just imagine what it will be like for us when China decides to take over Taiwan. They have a hundred times as many hackers and built much of the electronics they will be attacking. I hope the systems have manual overrides and skilled operators (ha!) to be able to run everything when we have to disconnect the fancy digital automation.

I agree wholeheartedly with your assessment that newer weapons in the hands of Houthis/Iran would probably yield different results.

I also find another part of the article troubling, and that's the cyberattack on Iran's gas production. I'm not against Israel doing it -- I'm just saying it's a reminder that it can be done to us. We should have our energy infrastructures hardened against cyberattacks. For one thing, they should be in closed internets or WANs (as opposed to on the world wide internet).

For example, decades ago when I made software to generate and transmit bank ACH files, some of the banks we dealt with expected us to lease from AT&T a dedicated data line between us and the bank. An energy company can do the same with dedicated data lines between its headquarters and regional power plants or oil refineries or whatever.

Are those just pot shots at us or does Iran have electronic intelligence assets to watch the Navy’s air defense radars and reaction speed? Back in the Cold War we would fly planes right up the the Soviet border hoping to get some jumpy private in their air defense to use a war reserve mode or frequency on a radar to add to our jamming knowledge.

I posted about this yesterday, we have an election next year, 2024 is only a few days away and Biden is struggling in the polls, it would a perfect justification to get into a full-scale war with Iran if a US Navy ship was severely damaged or sunk taking a large number of Americans with it.

You can never underestimate what desperate things the Democrats combined with the Military Industrial Complex will resort to in order to stay in power.

I think the other one would be allowing the Russkies to march into Kiev.

Then they can tee off on the Republicans for “abandoning” Ukraine.

As crazy as these things might sound, nothing is off the table when it comes to these people.

A false flag attack or two on our Navy, perhaps combined with a terrorist attack or two inside the USA by Iranian agents and you will have a major war on your hands.
