Trumpo did exactly what he was supposed to do, he asked hem to demionstrate peacefully. It is not his job to control the D.C. That falls to a number of people that are supposed to do their work and didn’t.

The Mayor appoints five Deputy Mayors. The one in the loop on this is the Deputy Mayor for Public Safety and Justice. These people are the ones that direct their own police force and like a state, have to ask the president to bring in the national guard...which they didn’t until long after the incident was started.
