Jackson Lee, 73, filed paperwork for reelection on Monday. She enters the race for the safe blue House seat she has held for nearly three decades after state Sen. John Whitmire defeated her in a landslide loss to become the mayor of Houston on Saturday, 64%-36%.
“I am compelled by the numerous opportunities still ahead to advance the lives of my constituents,” Jackson Lee said in a statement. “I am fueled by the belief that experience is essential, yet I also recognize the significance of genuine commitment, steadfast dedication, and a proven ability to deliver results.”
But her entry into the race won’t be the glide path it’s been in previous elections. The race for her seat was already well underway.
Until Jackson Lee entered the race, Amanda Edwards, a former Houston city councilmember and previous U.S. Senate candidate running on a promise to bring generational change to the district, was the frontrunner for the nomination.
Since announcing her campaign in June, Edwards, 41, has already shown a strong fundraising effort, having pulled in just over $1 million to her campaign coffers — more than Jackson Lee has raised in each of her election cycles except one. She ended the last FEC fundraising quarter with more than $800,000 cash on hand. Edwards will continue her campaign regardless of Jackson Lee filing, she told POLITICO.

The lovely Lee pictured here with her devoted husband Thulsa.
Seems she may have lost control of the Houston/Fort Bend County election fraud machine.
Can’t someone (even a drug-cartel guy) run a campaign against her? There’s a 41-percent Hispanic population in the 18th...surely they can mount their own candidate and push her out?
The pig who is so lazy she can’t even order her own meals, she has to have someone else do it.
“Do you know who I am? I’m Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee! Where is my seafood meal? I know it was ordered!”
Houston missed its chance to become a sanctuary city.
Jackson Lee again named ‘meanest’ Congress member

She lost to an old white guy which proves the voters of Houston are racist.
We the people, are not sending our best and brightest to represent us.
In other words, "What's in your wallet?"
Lizard creatures.
““I am compelled by the numerous opportunities still ahead to advance the lives of my constituents, ....I am fueled by the belief that experience is essential, ...and a proven ability to deliver results.””
Translated ... she is compelled to run again to advance her own personal interests in a gerrymandered district that assures a demonkkrap wins it ... and she has been rewarded for doing what the party bosses have told her to do for the last 30 years, to vote in lock-step. Would love to see her primaried out... a nice way to end her career feeding at the public trough.
I meant Harris County.
The grifter needs to continue to grift.
What you do when you have absolutely NO marketable skills whatsoever
It terrifies her that she might not be living of the government teat. She’s a real welfare politician.
“We the people, are not sending our best and brightest to represent us.”
Agree - the best and brightest have figured out that fighting for success in the corporate world fraught with CRT/DIE attitudes is hard enough at work so why would one want to magnify that struggle by working at the national level?
With two Civil War Cancel Culture names, I can’t believe she still hasn’t been cancelled yet.
At least AOC will be happy. If SJL returns, then AOC isn’t automatically the stupidest person in Congress.
What really terrifies her, is not being able to boss people around.
The best and brightest want nothing to do with getting involved in politics, can you blame them?
