Same thing happened in last governor election for KY. Vote totals are almost the same, every statewide office won by Republicans with more votes than dem governor, but Republican lost governor, gee I’ll vote Republican but not for Republican governor.

University students I reckon from out of state. Voting when they shouldn’t for just one candidate. Happens a lot in university towns.

Vote totals are almost the same, every statewide office won by Republicans with more votes than dem governor, but Republican lost governor, gee I’ll vote Republican but not for Republican governor. Kentucky is stuck on stupid when it comes to electing governors. Almost all of Kentucky's governors have been Democrats for the last 125 years or more, so I'm not really surprised.
But Republicans won every cabinet level race and won supermajorities in both legislative branches, thus limiting the damage the Democrat governor can do.
