On the campaign trail, Byron Donalds hasn't hidden the criminal charges in his past.

A 1997 marijuana charge was dismissed as part of a pre-trial diversion program.

A 2000 bribery charge was later expunged and is no longer available as a public record.

In a 2014 television interview, which he says still serves as his official statement on the matter, Donalds said: “Fifteen years ago, I came in contact with a girl. She offered me $1,000 for my debit card and my PIN number,” he said. “I never got the thousand dollars, but I had to make restitution to the bank in excess of 7,000.”

A criminal who doesn't hide his criminal history, is most likely not a criminal at all. But they are most assuredly not likely to be a criminal still.

Yes, but it doesn't say anything about the nature of the conviction.

Question: do you think the Duke Lacrosse Team players would have been convicted if Mike Nifong had been allowed to proceed to trial? 88 Duke professors signed a letter declaring them guilty of rape; that's how incited the town had become by Nifong.

It's a thought exercise, but if the Duke players had been convicted and then had the conviction expunged when the nature of Nifong's prosecution was revealed, would you be saying the same thing about them that you are implying about Donalds now?

We know the abuses that Nifong perpetrated on the Duke students; we don't know if there were abuses in the Donalds case. We only know that the Donalds case records were expunged. Is it really fair to impute a meaning on the expunging of records when by definition we can't know the facts?

BTW, Donalds was the same age as the Duke kids when both their troubles occurred.

My guess is there about a dozen. Some are more active than others. I can think of 3 or 4 known regulars. They tend to use shallow, obvious and IQ insulting handles. Way too on the nose.
