Dang! Wish I was in a position to take you up on that offer. Those folks just aren’t right in the head.
“Yes, many people have handguns. But problem is that there are 400+ million guns in the USA but only an estimated 20 million ARs.
That’s not a lot for a population of 330 million facing the kind of attack we see on that video.”
——————-
First, there are many more semi-auto rifles than just AR-15s, probably north of 50 million including them. Second, even 20 million makes the modern rifle-armed US civilian population larger than the 10 largest armies in the world, combined. Hardly an insignificant force (though I do think that we would agree that more would be better, and lots more lots better).
When you’re caught in the open by a paragliding maniac with an AK, you’re going to be at a disadvantage with your EDC. But a gun is far better than no gun. More relevant at this point is that the terrorists were forcing entry into houses knowing no one inside was prepared to oppose them. Suddenly Mr. Shotgun in the hands of a homeowner using cover against a terrorist who is standing in the doorway Frame Of Death trying to get his bearings has a little more level playing field. You don’t have to go toe to toe with these guys, they have to come to you. And they’re not there to fight it out.
This table is total production. Not what is still available.

Just do a sort by country and start adding up semi auto rifles. (I do not count .22 LR as military semi-auto rifles)
It’s a stretch to get to 50 million semi auto rifles with plausible military cartridges, but there is probably 40 million.
There are ~75 million detached houses in the USA and ~75 million other multi family residences.
I would think that a very large fraction of the semi auto rifles, bolt rifles and shotguns would be in the single family homes.
The people in multis would have mostly handguns.
One thing we did not see in this attack was going into multi-story residential and killing everyone. That sort of tactic was a feature of the Balkan Wars.
Looking at it that way, the single family neighbourhoods are potentially much better off than I originally thought. Especially if they have just a few minutes warning.
The people living in high rise apartments though...
