The article is superficial in many respects. I worked for two decades for the Florida GOP as the foundations for its dominance were being laid. Three things deserve mention:

(1) A highly effective Republican chairman, Tom Slade, who recruited and supported a dedicated team of experienced GOP HQs staff who created one of the most effective state GOP operations in the country.

(2) A strategy that secured and built GOP control of the legislature so as to shut out Democrats from having state legislators who could fundraise and support the Democratic party at the state level.

(3) An effective effort to get new resident from out of state to register and vote Republican.

All of this has been decades in the making. A shame that many other states haven't followed this example.
