I’ve debated gun-control lawyers. They said guns aren’t the answer for personal safety. I’ve come to a single conclusion when I look at the people who want us disarmed. Their actions speak so loud that I can barely hear their words. Some of the strongest and most consistent practitioners of armed defense are the people who espouse gun-control for the rest of us. That is the hidden truth in the gun-control debate.

It depends on your environment. Most soldiers in combat prefer a gun for their personal safety because they doubt their ability to negotiate with someone out to kill them.
The argument isn’t about guns. It’s about the environment we live in and people’s desire to stay live, and people have different opinions on that. There are also different environments within America.

Its simple: the person wants you unable to retaliate in case they decide to have their way with you. They're one step away from the sickos who torture helpless animals because they can.
And it isn't even necessary that they are actually planning to do something, they just need to have they security of knowing they can do something to you without retaliation.
And it doesn't stop at guns. Guns are just they most direct, violent way to stop an imminent threat. They're also what the corrupt fear, because Sammuel Colt makes all men equal. Just look at what was done to that Penny fellow in New York--I'm pretty sure one of the little/unspoken sentiment of "how dare he defend himself and others".
