I only wish I appreciated him more in my younger days.

His song topics ranged from the sweet sentiments of childhood dreams ( Pony Man) to the harsh horrors of war ( Echoes of Heroes, and race riots (Black Day in July). His love songs generally were about losing it, but he had a few positive ones(cotton jenny, fine as fine can be, I’ll prove my love, Beautiful, If you need me). He had songs about Canada growth(Canadian railroad trilogy,
Crossroads)....I would recommend you check ‘em out.
His songs run the gamut of human experiences. Very impressive body of work. Good luck finding those songs.

He has, IMHO, a few songs I don’t like too much....but very few...

Good place to start. His rerecorded version of Song for a Winters Night on that album really got me interested in his music. I guess I’m a sucker for songs about lonely pining away for love in a warm cabin in the snow, Up until then, I just liked a few of his songs....

Anyone else remember the SCTV sketch where Rick Moranis did the commercial: “Gordon Lightfoot sings - every song ever written!..”?

Gord’s Gold has been on my ipod-ipad for YEARS! One of my “go-to” albums. I had tickets to two of his concerts, and both times something came up that I had to miss them. His age was a loss to the music industry, and now lost forever.

Downloaded it onto my phone last night. I’m hoping to play it for my kids on our next road trip.
