It is important to understand that in each of our cities, in each village, wherever it is now more or less quiet. Everywhere where today was just a calm spring sunny day... Every day of such calmness in the rear areas is gained by our warriors in brutal battles on the frontline. In daily battles! Please, respect this. And always help our soldiers when needed, always support the state and defense as much as possible.
Second – gratitude to the rescuers, all our employees of the State Emergency Service, who are involved in eliminating the consequences of enemy strikes. Thanks to the entire team of the State Emergency Service! And I thank everyone who helps spread our book around the world. Who implements such projects as, for example, “Books without Borders”. In the difficult past year, more than 280,000 books were distributed in the framework of this project. 20 countries joined. Or our other project - Ukrainian bookshelves in almost 40 countries of the world. Thanks to everyone who helps! Thanks to all our Ukrainian publishers who continue their work. And, of course, I thank everyone who writes in Ukrainian and about Ukraine.
And, finally, the fifth. We continue to prepare several important international events that can give our state more strength and provide our soldiers with more weapons. Almost every day relevant communication with partners, relevant tasks for our diplomacy take place. Discussions, conversations, meetings.
And I thank everyone involved in such preparatory work. In the absolute majority of cases, this work is invisible to the general public. And rightly so. That’s how it works. The result is based on preparation. Thanks to everyone who prepares the results for Ukraine! The Office, the government, our diplomatic missions - thank you to everyone involved!

DETAILS: Maliar said that Russian forces are continuing to conduct offensive operations on the Bakhmut front, with intense fighting underway in the city of Bakhmut.
“Enemy forces are failing to establish control over the city, despite having thrown all of their resources into the fight [for Bakhmut] and even occasional successes. Our soldiers are repelling countless attacks and even counter attacking in some areas. Bakhmut’s defenders are successfully achieving the goals that they were set,” the Deputy Defence Minister concluded.

I am Ukrainian. My country has been invaded by Russia. In this video I will tell you what happened on the four hundred and thirty first day of the war.
Day 431: April 30
Last time I told you that Ukrainians started to demolish key Russian positions by conducting precision strikes. I also told you that such a use of air bombs and missiles already dealt a lot of damage to Russian logistics and forced them to take time to regroup.
The freshest reports indicate that this was just the beginning. Combat footage released by the Russian side showed that Russians are actively using tall buildings to target Ukrainian positions at a distance. When it comes to 10-story buildings, Russians do not even need to get on the roof to get a clear view of the target. That is why the primary target of Ukrainians became high-rise buildings along Levanevskogo Street, from where Russians have been targeting the whole western side of the city. Combat footage released by the Ukrainian side shows how Ukrainians conducted a powerful strike on one of the tall buildings.
Another video shows a controlled explosion of the second high-rise building just across the street. This particular building was causing a lot of trouble for Ukrainians because it was used by Russian snipers. As seen previously, in intense urban fights, the front line can move back and forth quite substantially, even in 1 day, so it looks like Ukrainians conducted a counterattack in this region, temporarily recaptured the area, and set explosives. The operation was conducted very timely as Russians in this region were regrouping, which made them more susceptible to front-line penetrations.
In the central part of the region, there are a lot of changes. Many reports suggest that Ukrainians left the Engineering Department and Medical College and assumed defense in the high-rise buildings behind them. Some analysts are saying that goal is to move closer to the main fortifications, while others are saying that the move was forced by the recent Russian advancement from the south.
It looks like the first explanation fits better because recent combat footage showed that Russians do not have tight control over the region. The main goal of Russians was to split Ukrainian forces in Bakhmut into 2 groups, however, even after establishing control over the Industrial College, Ukrainians are freely moving between these two parts of the town due to the local geography. The territory behind the houses is in the lowlands, making direct fire impossible. In turn, recent combat footage shows how Ukrainians conducted an unexpected raid on Russian positions and unleashed rapid and devastating fire from two tanks on two sides. After the raid, the drone operators filmed how several Russian crews were moving through the area with huge wheelbarrows collecting corpses and parts of bodies. As the drone revealed a new movement in the region, Ukrainians doubled the damage by striking the areas of forces concentration right behind the Industrial college. It is unclear whether Ukrainians conducted a counterattack yet, but one slightly older video showed that counterattacks after such raids allow Ukrainians to collect a lot of trophies from the dead. The video shows how Ukrainians are disinfecting dozens of guns taken from the defeated Wagner troops. Ukrainian soldiers also published a video of another trophy, namely a thermobaric artillery system allegedly used in the Bakhmut direction.
Today the Head of the Wagner Group, Prigozhin, said that Wagner forces advanced in some places by up to 250 meters but added that it came at a huge cost. He said that they lost 99 soldiers in one day of offensive actions, however, the figure is likely much higher, especially taking into account recent artillery strikes and tank raids on defensive Russian positions. He once again underscored that they are taking more than 5 times as many losses as he expected. In a recent interview, he said that if the Russian Ministry of Defense continues to put spokes in his wheel, then the Wagner mercenaries will be faced with a decision to either stay and die or withdraw from Bakhmut.
Prigozhin also continued his efforts to convince the Kremlin to go over to the defensive in eastern Ukraine. He claimed that the Ukrainian counteroffensive could take place before 15 May and took an opportunity to criticize regular Russian forces for not rushing to prepare Wagner’s flanks to repel attacks.

DETAILS: The General Staff also reported that hospitals in the Russian-occupied city of Luhansk are struggling to deal with the increasing number of injured Russian soldiers. A group of medical workers, including surgeons, has recently arrived from Moscow Oblast to help treat and rehabilitate Russian soldiers. The official purpose of the visit is to “share experience” with their colleagues in Luhansk and help the city’s medical facilities.
The Russians are launching on Kyiv now (Monday over there). The air defense systems are doing well so far. They’ll avoid using the PAC3 systems to stop anything that’s cheap or small. There are plenty of lower cost air defense systems in Ukraine from quite a few other countries.

Near the Donetsk region’s Marinka, the cases of collective refusal to take part in hostilities have become more frequent among Russian troops.
The relevant statement was made by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Facebook, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
The main reasons for refusals are huge personnel losses and untimely ammunition supplies, the lack of personal protective equipment, and the fact that Russian soldiers are forced to conduct storming actions without the support of heavy equipment and artillery.
According to the General Staff, Russian troops are focusing efforts on conducting offensive actions in the Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiivka and Marinka directions. Ukraine’s Defense Forces repelled over 40 enemy attacks there.
The fiercest battles for the Donetsk region’s Bakhmut and Avdiivka continue. The Ukrainian military are bravely holding defense, the General Staff noted.
In the past 24 hours, Ukraine’s Air Force has launched three strikes on enemy personnel clusters. Ukrainian missile and artillery units hit one Russian personnel cluster, two fuel depots, two air defense missile systems, one artillery unit, and one more important enemy target. Additionally, Ukrainian forces shot down four enemy unmanned aerial vehicles.
Meanwhile, Russian troops launched one missile strike and 29 air strikes, and opened fire with multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) about 12 times.
In the Volyn and Polissia directions, the operational situation remained rather unchanged. No enemy offensive groupings were detected.
In the Siverskyi and Slobozhanskyi directions, Russian invaders launched air strikes on the Chernihiv region’s Halahanivka and Leonivka.
The enemy launched artillery strikes on the Chernihiv region’s Khrinivka and Zarichchia; the Sumy region’s Ukrainske and Seredyna-Buda; the Kharkiv region’s Chervona Zoria, Hoptivka, Krasne, Ternova, Vovchansk, Vovchanski Khutory and Nesterne.
In the Kupiansk direction, Russian troops did not conduct offensive actions. The enemy used unmanned aerial vehicles to adjust artillery fire.
In the Lyman direction, Russian troops conducted unsuccessful offensive actions towards Bilohorivka.
In the Bakhmut direction, Russian invaders continue offensive actions. Heavy battles are underway for the city of Bakhmut. The enemy conducted unsuccessful offensive actions towards Predtechyne.
In the Avdiivka direction, Russian troops conducted unsuccessful offensive actions near Pervomaiske.
In the Marinka direction, Ukrainian forces repelled numerous Russian attacks near Marinka and Novomykhailivka.
In the Shakhtarsk direction, Russian invaders did not conduct offensive actions. Instead, the enemy opened fire on the Donetsk region’s Bohoiavlenka, Vuhledar, Novoukrainka, Prechystivka, Shakhtarske and Velyka Novosilka.
In the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson directions, Russian occupiers continue holding defense and opening fire on nearby settlements. Over 20 cities and villages have come under enemy fire over the past day.
According to the data from the General Staff, within the temporarily occupied areas of Crimea’s Kerch Peninsula, Russian invaders intensified counter-sabotage and police control measures.
From April 26, 2023, the number of patrols increased, and police posts on local roads were reinforced by Russia’s FSB employees, who randomly check mobile phones and passports in civilians.

Russian commanders are likely punishing their soldiers by putting them in improvised cells consisting of “holes in the ground” covered with a metal grille, the UK Ministry of Defense said.
These makeshift underground cells, known as “Zindans,” are used to punish misdemeanors, including drunkenness and attempting to terminate their contacts.
The ministry pointed to multiple recent reports from Russian personnel about the use of such holes in an intelligence update on Sunday.
The ministry reported earlier this month that Russian troops are dying in Ukraine due to incidents linked to alcohol consumption. There have previously been reports of Russian soldiers getting into drunken brawls, which have sometimes been deadly.
Since the early days of the war, reports have also emerged of Russian troops mutinying and refusing to fight.
While Russian commanders generally took a light touch in enforcing discipline in the early months of the war and often allowed soldiers to quietly return home if they refused to fight, they have more strictly enforced discipline since the fall of 2022, the UK defense department noted.
These increasingly draconian methods have increased even further since General Valery Gerasimov took over command of the war in Ukraine in January 2023.
Russia has continued to suffer heavy losses in Ukraine. It has not confirmed the number of casualties, but The Center for Strategic & International Studies estimated in February that between 60,000 and 70,000 Russian soldiers have been killed in Ukraine.
