“All you need to know about the Turkish opposition’s foreign policy is in this article.

We have interviewed @UnalCevikoz and two other senior Turkish opposition officials to decipher what a Kilicdaroglu presidency might mean for Turkish foreign policy

- First a caveat: Kilicdaroglu made a lot of statements on Turkish foreign policy, but no final decision had been made. Yet there are principles: “non-intervention of domestic affairs of neighbours, impartial foreign policy and adherence to international norms”

- Kilicdaroglu is likely to return an institutional foreign policy that relies on state to state dialogue to personal rapports. “He will be determined to normalise its relations with the international community, the EU, and Nato,” officials say

- Kilicdaroglu likely put his focus on the core national security issues rather than adventurism “Why are we in Somalia? No reason. Why do we have thousands of soldiers in Qatar? Why are we in Libya, where we have taken a side in a civil war? We will review all of them.”

- Kilicdaroglu will normalise ties with Assad to establish border security and cut a deal on refugees, “which will be based on voluntary return, burden sharing with EU, US, UN. “ But the officials rule out a quick withdrawal from Syria and say they will set conditions

- Mutiple opposition officials we spoke said Kilicdaroglu government is very inclined to maintain Turkey’s careful neutrality in Ukraine, Russia question. They won’t join sanctions but don’t allow them to be circumvented by Moscow either

- With regard to the US, opposition officials say they will maintain a partnerships that is based on equality, and Turkey would try to re-enter F-35 program. But Kurdish question in Syria is still the elephant in the room

- The Turkish opposition is really charged on finding a resolution to the dispute with Greece, even if it means taking everything to the court, from maritime delimitation to airspace issue They also want to find ways to revive Cyprus unification talks

- The opposition wants to maintain ties both with Israel and Palestine. They would like to talk to every actor in the region and wouldn’t disrupt relations with the Gulf. But they think there are back deals the public isn’t aware of. So they don’t know what they will face

- The opposition is ready to review every issue even if it means talking about Hamas and Muslim Brotherhood presence in Turkey.

- The officials caution that everything is very fluid and no final decision has been made on any issue other than the points agreed among the six opposition parties that make up the Kilicdaroglu-led Nation Alliance. Read the other details below END”
