Details: Over the course of the day, the aviation of the Defence Forces launched five strikes on clusters of personnel and military equipment of the Russians. The units of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine destroyed a Russian Su-24M bomber.
The Ukrainian Rocket Forces and Artillery hit two clusters of Russian manpower, weapons and military equipment, one ammunition depot and two fuel and lubricant depots.
During the day, Russia launched one missile and 16 air strikes and launched four MLRS attacks.
The possibility of missile and air strikes throughout Ukraine remains high as Russia continues to ignore the laws and customs of war and use terror tactics against civilians.
Today, as a result of an airstrike on the infrastructure of the city of Beryslav, Kherson Oblast, civilians have been injured, and private homes and civilian infrastructure have been damaged.

The Russians maintain a military presence in the border areas of Kursk and Belgorod oblasts. During the day, Russia attacked the settlements of Chernatske, Esman, Kucherivka, Bilopillia, Volfyne and Basivka in Sumy Oblast, as well as the areas of the settlements of Tymofiivka, Veterynarne, Hlyboke, Pishchane, Hatyshche, Vovchansk and Bochkove in Kharkiv Oblast.
During the day, on the Lyman front, invaders conducted unsuccessful offensive operations in the vicinity of Vyymka. Areas of settlements on the Kupiansk and Lyman fronts came under artillery fire. Among them are Kolodiazne, Dvorichna, Zapadne, Petropavlivka, Kupiansk, Kyslivka and Kamianka in Kharkiv Oblast; Stelmakhivka, Nevske, Kuzmyne and Bilohorivka in Luhansk Oblast; as well as Kolodiazi, Spirne and Siversk in Donetsk Oblast.
On the Avdiivka and Marinka fronts, the Russians conducted offensive operations towards the settlements of Novokalynove, Stepove, Avdiivka, Sieverne, Pervomaiske, and Marinka but to no avail. Russia attacked the following settlements: Novokalynove, Avdiivka, Vodiane, Karlivka, Krasnohorivka, Marinka, Heorhiivka and Novomykhailivka, Donetsk Oblast.
During the day, on the Shakhtarsk front, invaders attacked the areas in and around Vuhledar, Prechystivka, and Velyka Novosilka in Donetsk Oblast.
On the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson fronts, the Russians are on the defensive. They attacked the settlements of Vremivka in Donetsk Oblast; Malynivka, Huliaipole, Staroukrainka and Charivne in Zaporizhzhia Oblast; Vesele, Beryslav, Kozatske, Zelenivka, Antonivka, Dniprovske in Kherson Oblast; and the city of Kherson.
In the Armiansk and Dzhankoi districts of the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, the Russians continue to build fortifications and trenches. Civilians are actively involved in the work.

The freshest reports suggest that Wagner forces are giving into the pressure and gradually retreating from their positions in the fields because some Ukrainian troops said that Russians no longer control the Khromove highway with their Anti-Tank Guided Missiles. Even though these systems have a range of up to 6 km, it only took to push them by around 700 meters because if we look at the topographic map, we can see that they were pushed behind the hill. Recent footage confirms that Ukrainians are delivering small batches of ammunition, although they are still driving as fast as possible to avoid mortar and artillery fire.
When it comes to the Sloviansk highway, it looks like Ukrainians decided to develop their success further and push Russians out of the Zaliznianske area. The assault was rapid and relatively heavy. If previously, Ukrainians here used only one tank and a squad of infantry to capture the Russian strongpoint, then in this attack, Ukrainians used at least two tanks, two armored fighting vehicles, and at least one platoon of infantry. It looks like the attack went wrong: Ukrainian armored vehicles got immobilized too far from Russian positions, which is why the attack was immediately aborted, and Ukrainian infantry in the background started slowly walking away while the tank still fired several rounds at Russian positions and retreated as well. It looks like the intensity of fights will continue slowly increasing because Ukrainians are devoting bigger and bigger assault units in this direction, although for now, they are not rushing and seem to be very cautious with their commitment of significant resources.
Ukrainian forces have also started releasing a lot of combat footage with snipers. One of the videos shows how a Ukrainian sniper is hunting on Russian reconnaissance groups in the fields around the Khromove highway, where he revealed a group consisting of 5 troops, waited until they got together, and eliminated the whole squad. But most snipers are currently located inside Bakhmut. In a recent interview, one of the Ukrainian snipers in Bakhmut said they usually work with targets at very close distances of around 300 meters, although in some areas it is still possible to work with targets more than 1 km away. Being shot from such small distances means that the enemy has basically no chance of surviving. Right now, Ukrainians are mostly located on the territories of huge residential areas with high-rise buildings, while Russians are predominantly located on the outskirts where there are only 1-story houses.
This setting greatly favors Ukrainian snipers and allows them to have significant control over the approaches and support the units that are engaging in close-combat fighting. With an abundance of potential firing positions, many Russian forces get trapped inside the houses with no chance of running away. The only thing they can and usually resort to, unless communication is blocked, is shelling the whole house if they can identify it. That is why the Russian pace of advancement is usually equal to the pace at which the artillery can reduce one residential area after another.
Despite the heavy artillery fire, the Commander of Ukrainian forces in Bakhmut once again visited Ukrainian positions inside the city and told everyone to use the fortified infrastructure of the city for defense as intelligently as possible and aim to inflict disproportionate losses to the enemy. The Ukrainian President has also recently paid a visit in the Bakhmut direction. At that time, the roads were still under fire control of Anti-Tank Guided Missiles, so for safety reasons, he visited Ukrainian positions in Chasiv Yar and gave medals to the best soldiers.

There are roughly 6,000 Wagner group mercenaries fighting in the eastern Ukrainian city of Bakhmut, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley told US lawmakers on Wednesday.
“They’re conducting combat operations right now in Bakhmut primarily. It’s probably about 6,000 or so actual mercenaries and maybe another 20 or 30,000 recruits that they get, many of whom come from prisons,” Milley told the House Armed Services Committee alongside US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin. “And they are suffering an enormous amount of casualties in the Bakhmut area; the Ukrainians are inflicting a lot of death and destruction on these guys.”
The battle over Bahkmut has turned into a “slaughter-fest” for the Russians, Milley said.
“The Ukrainians are doing a very effective area defense that is proven to be very costly to the Russians. For about the last 20, 21 days, the Russians have not made any progress whatsoever in and around Bahkmut,” he said. “So it’s a slaughter-fest for the Russians. They’re getting hammered in the vicinity of Bahkmut and the Ukrainians have fought very, very well.”
The head of the Russian private military company, Yevgeny Prigozhin, said in an audio message earlier Wednesday that the battle for the city “has already practically destroyed the Ukrainian army,” but added that Wagner has “been pretty battered” as well.
Milley also addressed Russia’s allies: China, Russia and Iran are “moving closer together” and will be a persistent problem for years to come, Milley said.
He said that he’s concerned about “any coherence and cohesion between Russia and China,” and that the two countries are “getting closer together.”
“I wouldn’t call it a true full alliance in the real meaning of that word, but we are seeing them [Russia and China] moving closer together, and that’s troublesome,” Milley said. “And then if you add in Iran … those three countries together are going to be problematic for many years to come I think, especially Russia and China because of their capability.”
Last week, China’s leader Xi Jinping met with President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. China in recent weeks has repeatedly attempted to portray itself as an aspiring broker of peace, reiterating its calls for a ceasefire and peace talks in a vaguely-worded position paper released last month. Western countries have viewed Beijing’s intentions with deep suspicion, and NATO’s chief said that the alliance has seen “some signs” that Russia is pressing China to provide lethal aid.

On Wednesday, Hungarian President Katalin Novák expressed her support for a peace plan for Ukraine that does not entail a Russian victory and is based on “realistic goals”.

Details: “We need a peace plan that does not entail a victory for Russia, but at the same time provides for fair and realistic goals,” the Hungarian president said, emphasising that Russia must also withdraw its troops from Ukraine.
She also thanked Erdoğan for his role as a mediator between Ukraine and Russia.
“The ultimate goal is peace, which requires a common will, and we must do everything we can to prevent the escalation of the war. We need to calm down, not increase tensions, and the warring parties need to sit down at the negotiating table, and we need a peace plan,” Novák added.
It should be noted that other Hungarian officials have expressed a less categorical position on achieving peace in Ukraine.
For example, in a speech to the UN General Assembly on 23 February, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó called for talks between the US and Russia to end the war in Ukraine.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on participants to preserve respect for democracy in countries where freedom has not yet won, speaking via video link at the Democracy Summit 2023, organised by US President Joseph Biden.
Details: As the president of Ukraine noted in a video address on 29 March, Russia has long been at war with many democracies around the world, using mechanisms of disinformation, corruption, election interference, espionage, and cybercrime, and now also attempting to provoke a global energy and food crisis.
“The enemies of freedom have not lost a single year in recent decades! They channelled all their time and unlimited money, which they gained in trade with the free world, – to weaken and to corrupt and to undermine democracy. But have all the efforts of the free world been aimed at limiting the aggressive potential of tyrants and autocrats and at bringing them to legal responsibility for their crimes? Unfortunately – no. We have to fix it.”
He is convinced that “democracy must learn to be uncompromising in the face of evil”.

In addition, Zelenskyy called it unpleasant that “sanctions against Russia are much slower than Russian aggression”.
Zelenskyy compared the fight between the Ukrainian military and the Russian army to a fire: firefighters cannot wait several months for fire trucks or adopt a rule that fire hydrants should be mandatory only for short distances.

Details: US President Joe Biden opened the Summit for Democracy with a pledge to provide another US$690 million to support democracy programmes around the world over the next two years. At the first summit, more than US$400 million was pledged.
“We are witnessing an unprecedented unity among democracies that condemn Russia’s brutal war of aggression against Ukraine and stand in solidarity with the brave Ukrainian people as they defend their democracy,” the American leader said.
About 120 world leaders are taking part in the summit, which is being held online. During their opening speeches at the summit on 29 March, almost every speaker mentioned the war in Ukraine.

Between January 24, 2022, and January 15, 2023, the US sent 250 Humvees and 200 M113 armored personnel carriers to Ukraine. The Bradleys have already been spotted in the Zaporizhzhia region in eastern Ukraine, according to reports from the Russian side. This means that President Biden fulfilled his promise to send 59 of these vehicles to Ukrainian forces. Exceptional technological features of these vehicles.
