Did the “QAnon Shaman” Get Shafted on Sentencing? New Footage Raises Questions Over the Chansley Case
jonathanturley.org ^ | March 8, 2023 | Jonathan Turley

If there is one image from Jan. 6th that will remain indelible with the day, it is the “QAnon Shaman.” Bare chested and wearing an animal headdress, horns and red-white-and-blue face paint, Jake Angeli Chansley is to the Capitol riot what Rosie the Riveter was to World War II. Howling and “chanting an unintelligible mantra” on the Senate floor, he is the embodiment of the unhinged rage that led to one of the most disgraceful attacks on our constitutional process in history.

However, the newly released Fox footage from that day raises serious questions over the prosecution and punishment of Chansley. The videotapes aired on Tucker Carlson this week show Chansley being escorted by officers through the Capitol. Two officers appear to not only guide him to the floor but actually appear to be trying to open locked doors for him. At one point, Chansley is shown walking unimpeded through a large number of armed officers with his four-foot flag-draped spear and horned Viking helmet on his way to the Senate floor.

It is otherworldly footage. While I admit that I approach these stories from the perspective of a long-standing criminal defense attorney, I would be outraged if I was unable to see such evidence before a plea or sentencing. At no point in the videotapes does Chansley appear violent or threatening. Indeed, he appears to thank the officers for their guidance and assistance. On the Senate floor, Chansley actually gave a prayer to thank the officers agreed “to allow us into the building.”

The prosecutors should be jailed for their deception.

Chansley’s lawyer seems to be circumspect about reversing judgment - which seems strange to me. maybe he needs Dersh or a more aggressive type. it seems many of the J6 defendants were pushed into pleas.

Good luck proving malicious prosecution. It is very nearly impossible to prove in a US that the prosecutor didn’t prosecute the case in a less then good faith.

All the J6 prisoners deserve compensation, but they won’t get it.

it seems many of the J6 defendants were pushed into pleas.

They were, mainly because it is so expensive to conduct a prolonged defense and trial. The process is the punishment, especially for regular everyday people with limited income.

Turley wrote that Chansley is weeks away from his release? How long has he been incarcerated?

Does someone like Chansley or any of the other Jan.6th political prisoners have a legal fund we can donate to? Nothing outrages me more than how these guys have been treated especially when riots like the one at Trumps inauguration are COMPLETELY ignored which was a hell of a lot worse than Jan. 6th

Is it hard to get an appeal when you pleaded guilty?

Maybe Tucker’s selective edit didn’t include some things that were important in getting the conviction in the first place.

Footage of me not committing a crime would not be helpful to my defense if at the same time there were also footage of me committing a crime.

What’s really disturbing is what Shaman’s new attorney said on Tucker last night. He said it’ll be almost impossible to get justice or overturn the sentence due to the way the first lawyer handled the plea deal.

Apparently, these types of cases are the new guy’s specialty and he doesn’t seem hopeful. I thought new evidence was a thing for appeal or overturn, but maybe that only applies if the person said he was not guilty. Chansley pled guilty.

“Does someone like Chansley or any of the other Jan.6th political prisoners have a legal fund we can donate to?”

There is supposed to be a GiveSendGo account for this, but I don’t remember what it’s called. Maybe find Julie Kelly’s official site; she’s been strong on the Jan. 6 issue.

Baldwin — do you know how to donate?

"...The process is the punishment, especially for regular everyday people with limited income..."

Spot on. Especially against the government, which has bottomless pockets and can drag out the case as long as necessary, which they happily do.

Using my money, and yours, to persecute our fellow citizens.

It is galling, and the Leftists seem to enjoy this aspect of sticking it in our face, using our own money taken from us, to punish us.

Maybe a little off topic but:

Censored video re-emerges of Jacob Chansley reading Trump’s tweet, telling protestors to GO HOME and remain peaceful..

As I understand it, the plea agreement he signed ruled out the possibility of an appeal.

Of course, Tucker “selectively edited” the video, but the members of the J6 committee and the government prosecutors were totally honest in how they portrayed Chansley’s actions. /s

Save your money for now. From the article.

“Chansley waived an appeal of the plea agreement and is now weeks away from release. The case is practically closed.”

The process is the punishment

This is the biggest weapon the government possesses in its never-ending war against the right for "we the people" to redress grievances.
