'Let Him Play': Ron DeSantis Pens Cheeky Letter to Joe Biden Asking if World's Top Tnis Player Novak Djokovic Can Enter the U.S. By Boat

Ron DeSantis seems to be having a great time in his second term as governor of Florida. While the rest of us wait to hear if he’ll be running for president in 2024, DeSantis is racking up the wins and making Joe Biden look more foolish every day.

Take the issue of tennis star Novak Djokovic, for instance. The Serbian has been making headlines for the past few years, not because of his prowess on the tennis court, but because of his steadfast refusal to get the COVID vaccine. This has adversely affected his career, with various countries refusing to let him play in tournaments due to his non-vaccinated status. As RedState’s own Sister Toldjah reported last year, Djokovic wasn’t able to play in the prestigious U.S. Open because of the vaccination requirement for all foreign nationals who wish to enter the United States. And it bears repeating, this rule has remained in place despite the ample evidence that vaccination doesn’t prevent the spread of COVID.

Luckily for Novak Djokovic, he has a supporter in Governor Ron DeSantis. Djokovic has once again requested a waiver to enter the U.S. to play in this week’s BNP Paribas Open, which takes place in Indian Wells, California. And, once again, the Department of Homeland Security denied his request based solely on his unvaccinated status. This decision will also force him to miss The Miami Open, which DeSantis calls “Tennis’ Fifth Grand Slam.” For those keeping score at home, we allow hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants to stream across the southern border each year and fail to track them, their medical histories, and their criminal activity. The world’s number one men’s tennis player, however, goes through the proper channels and isn’t allowed entry. Fun stuff.

All of this nonsense prompted DeSantis to write a letter to Joe Biden requesting clarification on acceptable ways for Djokovic to gain entry into the country, including by boat. DeSantis demanded the Biden administration “put pandemic politics aside and give the American people what they want – let him play.” He noted to the president that the decision to bar Djokovic was “unfair, unscientific and unacceptable.” Also:

“It is also not clear to me why, even by the terms of your own proclamation, Mr. Djokovic could not legally enter this county via boat. Please confirm no later than Friday, March 10, 2023, that this method of travel into Florida would be permissible.”

And DeSantis wasn’t close to being done, adding, “Furthermore, even as you enacted a Proclamation on air travel that remains in force to this day, your administration pointedly allowed thousands of unvaccinated migrants to enter our country through the southern border.” Advantage, DeSantis.

One Twitter user, Phil Kerpen, had a solution at hand: a Bahamian ferry company that clearly states on its website that vaccinations aren’t necessary when entering Florida by ferry. It is unknown if Djokovic will go that route in order to play in the Miami Open. The good news for the tennis ace is that Biden has arbitrarily declared the United States COVID emergency to be over on May 11, meaning unvaccinated foreign travelers won’t need to resort to hitching rides on ferries to enter the country.

I note with amusement that he apparently signed his letter to the pResident with a felt-tip pen. Subtle dig, I like it. If he really wanted to make his point less subtle, he would have used crayon. Nice touch, that.

Aside: Somebody should give FJB crayons and a coloring book. Keep him busy and out of trouble.

Indeed.

Good job by Governor DeSantis.

They will continue to punish Novak because he is a Serb and he refuses to follow their rules.

The people who stole the WH never forget and they are vindictive as hell.

Seems there is another Serb BB player in CO has some people all wee wee’d up because he is getting an award again.

Finally we have a Presidential contender that can say something without the usual hate and name calling that seems to be the norm. I wish DJT would shut his mouth.

It's enjoyable to see Florida's Governor trolling the senile decrepit currently soiling the Oval Office.

Meanwhile, I read earlier that the Biden admin is softening up travel restrictions to China. All this covid paranoia is very selective, n'est-ce pas?

Well, we made it to post #6 of DeSantis praise before someone tries to turn this into a Trump bashing thread instead of simply praising DeSantis and leaving it at that.

My son honorably served 4 years in the Marines and did not reenlist. 4 years ago the !@@#$ airline would not allow him to board a plane to return from Tokyo.

“I wish DJT would shut his mouth.”

I wish you would shut YOUR mouth. It was Trump’s mouth and the words that oame out of it, all of them, including the occasional insult (remember the 2016 election primaries such as Marco Rubio’s small hands, lol) that got him elected.

You take the whole man, not just part of his persona, and as a President he was one of the best ones we’ve ever had. Trump now leads DeSantis by large amounts in poll after poll. The most recent one today has Trump leading DeSantis something like 58% to 17%, and everyone else, including Chris Sunnunu(sp?) who is actually from NH.

The Emerson poll that just came out also has Trump leading by a lot. Give me Trump’s mouth over anyone else’s mouth, as his is a winning mouth. Trump will win the Pub primary and DeSantis should run in 2028 when he would win. If he runs this time, he will alienate the MAGA base that he will need in 2028, and he will not win this time around anyhow.

I hope DeSantis (I live in FL and he is a great Gov and smart as can be) chooses wisely and runs in 2028, not now, because he will lose, will be seen as being financed by the Bush wing, anti-Trumpers and globalists, and will regret having tried to run in 2024. DeSantis is young and his time will come; just not now.

Trump’s mouth doesn’t bother me. But it will keep a lot of people from voting for him. He needs to get a lot of extra votes to win because of the cheating. I don’t think Trump can win no matter how many votes he gets. He is simply too much of a threat to the swamp. I like Trump and would love for him to be president again. I voted for him twice. I wish a newcomer would show up.
