8 months, and the second army of the world still hasn’t taken Bakhmut. What an embarrassment.

Putin arrived in Sochi earlier today. 1 decoy plane instead of 2 this time. General SVR was right about March 5th.

Reporting from Ukraine:
https://www.youtube.com/@RFU
••Day 374.

Today there is a lot of news from the east.

Here, after Russians managed to achieve a significant breakthrough on the northern flank, they got extremely close to establishing control over the village that guards the only remaining way out of Bakhmut.

Ukrainians saw that the situation started to worsen rapidly, immediately reinforced the flanks, successfully secured the retreat route, and finally ordered Ukrainians to leave the town.

Last time I told you that Russian forces had concentrated their efforts on taking the village Khromove in order to establish complete fire control over the field and effectively close the pocket around the town.

I also told you that Ukrainians heavily reinforced the northern flank in an attempt to stop Russian advancement.

The freshest reports suggest that Ukrainians managed to achieve their objective because, as of today, Russian sources report that Ukrainians continue holding defense in Khromove, which secures the movement in and out of the city.

And this is extremely important because Ukrainians have finally started to actively withdraw from Bakhmut.

Yesterday, a Ukrainian commander reported that his unit received the order to immediately withdraw from Bakhmut and move into a new combat zone.

Simultaneously, the geolocated footage showed that Ukrainian troops had destroyed two critical bridges in the Bakhmut area - one in northeastern Bakhmut and one west of Bakhmut.

The Institute for the Study of War commented on the situation and concluded that Ukrainians were rapidly setting conditions for a controlled withdrawal from parts of Bakhmut.

At this moment, the Ukrainians have completed the first stage of withdrawal by entirely leaving the eastern bank of the river.

This is commensurate with other reports, such as that Russians finally entered the meat-processing plant and advanced towards the central part of the town, right where the bridge is located.

The preemptive destruction of this bridge is likely an indicator that Ukrainian troops seek to inhibit Russian movement in eastern Bakhmut, especially of motorized elements.

Ukrainians are also slowly stepping back from the southern part of the town to avoid being outflanked and also because there are more reliable positions behind them in the high-rise buildings, and since we are at the point of withdrawal, there is no need to fight for every block.

Russians continued to push from the south, but with very limited success.

Poor weather conditions do not allow them to be mobile and aggressive, especially when attacking directly from the fields.

That is why they are more focused on assaulting the suburbs of Bakhmut.

The main goal here remains to get to the intersection, establish fire control over the fields and close the pocket around the town from the south.

Over the last several weeks, they managed to advance by around 300 meters from the forest toward the intersection, and right now there are 400 meters left, so their timely success here is unlikely.

Poor weather conditions also have an impact on Ukrainian withdrawal.

Since they have to cross the fields in the lowlands, the ground there is soaked in thawed snow.

It is extremely difficult to use regular cars because, with one wrong move can cause the car sliding on the mud, like on the ice, and can easily get it stuck on the side of the road.

Off-road cars, and especially infantry fighting vehicles, cope with it much better.

A lot of soldiers just resort to crossing the fields by foot.

New videos continuously emerge showing more and more Ukrainian soldiers outside of Bakhmut.

One of the videos showed that Bakhmut fighters had been sent to the rear positions, such as Kostiantynivka.

Overall, the Battle for Bakhmut is almost over, and Ukrainian High Command did not allow the situation to deteriorate to the point of no return.

It looks like all Ukrainian soldiers will gradually withdraw from the town, and Russians will not capture thousands of Ukrainian troops, as some sources previously forecasted.

Bakhmut is not the last obstacle in the way of Russians, so it is much better to save manpower and organize defensive positions along the heights of Chasiv Yar, which is exactly what Ukrainian commanders are doing right now.

Denys says:
••Russian assault on Adiivka: they sent 5 tanks and 10 BMPS in bad weather [video shows foggy overcast with melting snow]. UA drones able to fly and corrected artillery fire, losing 3 tanks, 5 BMPs and 6 POWs, forcing them off the road and into the fields which were mined.

==
If the enemy has air defenses, Russia rarely uses air to cover their tanks. Russia losing resources faster than they can replace them, while UA gets more and more from allies.

==
Now getting 28 Challenger tanks.

==
There is a fake March 4th intel report from Ukrainian Defense - mentions Zaporizhzhia.

==
Two RR bridges destroyed because Russian use RR to supply ammo and may slow them down.

==
UA asks for 250,000 artillery shells a month for summer campaign. Usual rate is 110,000 shells per month.

==
Proposed Rheinmetall factory in Ukraine is called a Russian target by [attack dog and resident Russian war monger], Medvedev.

Factory will cost $200 million to build and will produce 400 Leopard tanks a year.

==
There was a war game exercise at a US base in Germany with UA present - no details.

==
That Russia has decided not to repair either Nord Stream pipelines means it is not profitable for them.

==
Russia has built 3.6 km beach trenches in Crimea. No reasonable scenario has UA attacking Crimea with beach landings. May be a total waste of defense funds which are being laundered by some one.

==
The entire city of Marinka, after Russian shelling, looks like some archological dig with only foundation outlines and a couple of standing walls with every building destroyed, and still they continued to shell it.

==
Ukraine Parliament restored salary cut of UA troops. Why did they cut it in the first place? At the same time, members of Parliament and Kiev got extra salary because they “work hard”. Soldiers and people do not like the MPs because they are very corrupt [and stupid]. Parliament must be reformed after the war because it is a black hole for Ukrainian budget and for freedom.

The Economist says the Chinese are very angry about Russia’s actions leaking their possible intent to supply Russia with weapons. They realize that real sanction on them would set their economy back 30 years, and further, the West could blockade their access to the Pacific and Indian oceans.

“Two Ukrainian pilots are in the U.S. for training assessment on attack aircraft, including F-16s”

...simulators at a U.S. military base in Tucson, Arizona...

"Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, a part of the United States Air Force's Air Combat Command, is located in Tucson, Arizona. The base is home to the 355th Wing, responsible for training and deploying A-10C Thunderbolt II pilots. DM's aircraft inventory includes A-10Cs, EC-130H Compass Calls, HC-130J Combat Kings, HH-60G Pavehawks, a contingent of F-16 Fighting Falcons and 4,000 assorted aircraft in the 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group. "

Davis-Monthan is home of the A-10.

As noted above, there is a contingent of F-16s at the 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group (AKA the bone yard). The 309th would not have an F-16 simulator, so the F-16 won't be evaluated at DM.

My guess is the pilots are at DM to evaluate the A-10 only.

They will then proceed to Luke AFB, Glendale AZ, to evaluate the F-16.

I expect the UKR pilots will choose the F-16. But I fear the USAF will push the A-10.

I hope that Netherlands is preparing their F-16AM/BMs for delivery to UKF.

I think Biden pulling out of Afghanistan without informing NATO partners contributed to Putin thinking he could break NATO. Putin had a grand strategy which now lies in ruins.

That Russia has decided not to repair either Nord Stream pipelines means it is not profitable for them.

Since the western "Big Oil" companies have abandoned Russia, Russia doesn't have the resources or technical ability to repair the pipelines.

Russia's energy industry is in a world of hurt. The full impact won't occur for another year or two. However, the impact will remain for many years.

Putin did that!

https://sonar21.com/the-fall-of-bakhmut-a-prelude-to-the-fall-of-ukraine/

Bakhmut marks the second time since the start of the Special Military Operation that Ukraine has been unable to stop a comprehensive Russian attack and unable to mount a counter offensive to rescue trapped forces. The first was Mariupol. That attack was led by the Chechen units of the Russian Army. Once Mariupol was secured and the Ukrainian troops rounded up, the Chechens were redeployed to the rear to rest and refit.

Just like the Chechens did in Mariupol, the Wagner Group was the spearhead of the Russian attack in Bakhmut. I am not privy to the plans of the Russian General Staff but if past is prologue I expect the Wagner Group to be pulled off the line, as happened with the Chechens, and be sent to a secure area in the rear to rest and recuperate.

The damage inflicted on the Ukrainian military is stupefying.

###

During the last year Ukraine has enlisted hundreds of thousands of new recruits, but these new soldiers are being sent to the front with only minimal training. Ukraine does not have the number of trained, experienced soldiers required to mount a massive counter offensive. The lack of personnel is compounded by the inability of the West to supply ammunition and vehicles in sufficient numbers to sustain intense operations.

According to Andrei Martyanov, who has good sources in Russia, the 300,000 reservists called up last August have not yet been deployed to the front lines. The meaning is simple — Russia enjoys a massive advantage in terms of manpower, tanks, artillery, ammunition, missiles and combat air.

The fall of Bakhmut is a major blow, not just to Ukraine, but to the United States and NATO. This sets the stage for the West doing something desperate while Russia is content to continue to pulverize what is left of the Ukrainian military.

No problem with a-10s in my book Hugh payload long airtime and not bad at taking down enemy aircraft did well in several competitions, not to mention can take a lot of battle damage and Ukrainians are going to need close air support and i am serious 😎

They already have close air, that’s what their SU-25s are for - a subsonic, single-seat, twin-engine jet aircraft developed in the Soviet Union by Sukhoi. It was designed to provide close air support.

The A-10 would fare no better than the SU-25 in modern full on warfare - great for limited guerrilla wars - WWII style wars, not so much.

Give them FS-16s and F15s. They are necessary for combined arms breach.

I disagree. The A-10 is exactly what’s needed to counter these infantry charges with IFV’s and no air support.

I foresee another Highway of Death.

I don’t disagree that A-10s would be lost but comparing it to su-25 that I do disagree? Are you saying that only one airframe will become available? Not likely when air craft taboo is gone it will be a flood gate
Just my personal observation in Afghanistan we used a-10s not f-16s In gulf war we had to refuel f-16s multiple times to get to iraq while they were waiting to drop their loads and in the way back. Realize distanced are less but a-10 can loiter. F-16 bombed up has very limited duration
A-10a attack f-16s or 15s wait for radar to turn one wack them with harms
My scenario

Russia has “wasted huge amounts of human resources, armaments, and materials” during the war, Ukrainian Military Intelligence chief Kyrylo Budanov said in an interview with USA Today published on March 5.

Budanov: Russia likely to run out of ‘military tools’ by end of spring.
