Boys in Girls bathrooms is not a consensus position.
It HAD been a consensus the other way. Now it is not. That is because the termites have worked tirelessly to put it into play, and they succeeded.

The job of politians is to represent their constituents, not to build their resumes at the expense of the taxpayers.

That is a completely unfounded juxtaposition. You are implying that politicians who don't "represent" their constituents are building their resumes at the expense of taxpayers, as if one leads to the other.

"Represent" the constituents does NOT mean do whatever the current polling tells you. It means to work on their behalf. That means doing what is RIGHT.

Ron Johnson and Tammy Baldwin both "represent" Wisconsin as U.S. Senators. They were open about their positions ahead of time for those who cared to go beyond campaign ads, and are the opposite in their positions and votes most of the time.

Are both "representing" their voters? Are neither? Perhaps representation isn't just about representing the current polling. It isn't simply about reflecting current public opinion, which is fickle, but working for the INTERESTS of the people you represent, based on knowledge you may have as an elected official, the promises you made, and the judgment you were elected to employ.

We have a Bill of Rights to protect us against fickle public opinion.

Does it even matter to you to do what is RIGHT?

Our founders did not sacrifice so much in blood and treasure to enable do-gooder loonies to run around trying to force their half-baked ideas of right and wrong on the citizenry, while being paid by that citizenry to represent them in a legislative body.

There are a whole host of consensus issues, immigration reform, updating privacy protections, education reform, reining in the pharma bros of the world, truly the list is endless. We are all assured by all experts on the subject of DC that there is nothing that can be done because the country is too polarized to get commonsense legislation through. This of course is bullocks, there is plenty of common ground among the citizenry, the problem is politicians that are so busy trying to be a hero to this that the other special interest group (and yes, using the public trust and taxpayer funding for selfish reasons to burnish their own resumes). These guys need to do their jobs and stop looking for the sexiest fringe issues out there to try to attach themselves to and virtue signal over!
