But, do-gooders were concerned about his secret police and their use of torture against Muslim extremists. So Jimmy Carter turned his back on the Shah. Khomeini swept in with the 1979 Iranian Revolution, took our embassy, held US citizens as hostages and transformed Iran into a terror state.
