More harm to US Economy was done by helping China get admitted to WTO than anything Nixon did.
As a free trader, Nixon saw China as a future, giant, market where American products would one day be bought by a democratic citizenry. The WTO came later with Reagan and Bush #41. Both philosophies were drastically wrong.
