As a side note. Here in Nashua, NH yesterday afternoon we had a pair of jets do a fly over of the municipal airport right behind my office. The whole building shook. Very loud.
A bunch of the guys ran outside to look but they were long gone. One guy called the airport. They said a pair of F15 Strike Eagles had done a low fly over. They must have come up from the airbase out near Springfield, MA.
Sometimes they go up and fly through the White Mountains in NH.
My fighter pilot friend just retired for five years ago. He thoroughly enjoyed the movie. He said the movie will do three things, make Tom Cruz look good, be factually incorrect about everything to do with fighter combat, and be thoroughly entertaining.
Hey, it’s not like this movie was based on a book. I’m just saying…

In the 90s, I flew a little navy T-34 prop trainer and pulled only 4gs doing vertical and horizontal rolls. Didn’t hurl but was close. I can’t even imagine what you guys feel in an A-10 or F-15E.
It’s a movie, not a documentary.

Lot’s of cool first hand knowledge about the Top Gun program. Dave thought it was awesome.
Complete trivia here. Eastwood was 55-56 years old in Heartbreak Ridge. Cruise is currently 59 years old.

A lot of people seem to think they are. Its amazing how often you hear people references movie scenes as though they somehow reflect reality.
When I was in the Army, I was stationed at Fort Wainwright and went to the winter air crew survival course at Eielson Air Force base. Most of us were Army Air Force enlisted, I was a Huey Crew Chief, but we had two pilots with us, one was an F-16 pilot and the other was an A-10 pilot. Lots of good humored ribbing between them, as with the rest of us. (Sitting around a camp fire at -10 below everybody had a crazy flight story, I had a couple being in the 283rd Medivac). The A-10 pilot always had the best ones, and he was describing the A-10, he said the cockpit was like a titanium bathtub in shape, anyway he said the A-10 was a titanium bathtub with a bad ass airplane built around it and they added the gatling gun on it just to make it sexy. When I was in Desert Shield/Desert Storm (1st Cav.Fort Hood) whether flying or on the ground, there was nothing like the sound of the A-10’s rolling in and lighting up a target with that gatling gun. Saw a flight of a least four come rolling in on tanks and APC’s and various hard targets and vehicles, OMG!!! just awesome in their attack and just made mince meat of everything. Hands down the best attack aircraft ever built, along with my Huey, the Chinnook, probably the best aircraft ever made.

You should hear the whining about comic books. Lots of folk have no problem with people who could teleport or run fast. But some chicks beat up people in the comics or movies and people act like its not possible. None of it is possible, it’s not real. Just a comic.

Of course that’s real. ALL pilots can do that ... it’s primary requirement before entering flight school.

I always had a thing for Jennifer.
Hadn't seen that show since I was a kid and the action scenes were so cheesy and unrealistic that I was laughing. They were jumping 20 feet across high rise roofs of buildings and rappelling into windows with pinpoint accuracy, smashing through the glass and landing on their feet inside the building every time with their rifles at the ready. But that's what we kids thought SWAT people actually did in the day.
Then I grew up and learned that all they really actually do is bash in doors of Republicans in the middle of the night with news cameras trailing behind them.
