Another $700 million to Ukraine, and not a nickle to our Texas border. Aren't you ashamed of yourself?

Ukraine: military situation update with maps, June 1, 2022

———————————————————————————————————————
Extras:
Coming soon:
4 MQ-1C Gray Eagle drones that can be armed with Hellfire missiles. US Army version of the Predator. Public announcement after Congressional notification.

———————————————————————————————————————
••Russia had nuclear war drill
A very, very bad sign. 1,000 soldiers took part in this preparation for a general nuclear war, not just in Ukraine. People need to be aware of this threat.

••Negotiations:
Orcs want Uk must sign Orc terms all sanctions lifted.

••Railroads and bridges:
Orcs attack Slovakia railroad exchange tunnel in SW Ukraine. Most of weapons and fuel comes from Poland in the East. So attack makes little sense.

••Bilhorod bridge in South significantly damaged and is not usable. Out of 20 rockets fired, only 7 hit. Likely no attempt to repair it - will only be hit again. Bridge brings supplies in from Rumania.

••Russian Economy:
Officially in technical default on its debt. US banks on hook for billions of dollars lost for their investors. New home sales drop 3.5 times; retail sales dropped 10% - stats from Orc Statistical Bureau.

••Russian Industry:
They do not have ball bearings. Railroad carriage manufacturer 100000 workers) shut down for lack of bearings. Many other Orc industries will be forced to stop for lack of bearings. Maintenance of existing equipment that uses bearings (which is most everything) will become harder and harder. Swedish company SKF has international monopoly on them (a sanction).

••New Artillery:
Does UA have UAVS to use them effectively? The drones it does have are few and not so good for artillery spotting. They are the eyes, the forward observer. Without a good UAV effectiveness of new weapons is very limited. UA has noting comparable with Orlon-10. UA yesterday shot down Orlon-10 that belongs to a non-military Orc organization: Ministry for Emergencies (?) - comparable to US FEMA. Seems like there is a shortage of UAVs so take them from other agencies. One data point that does not indicate a trend ... yet.

••Oil and fuel:
Sanctions misguided and counter productive. Sells to India, processes it, then sell the gas and diesel to US. Russian crude oil tankers being transferred to other tankers and sold on open market.

••Russian Manpower and Equipment:
How is it they lack manpower but manage to take territory?

How this works: Russia has plenty of equipment, specifically artillery and so much ammo they can shoot with abandonment. Have a significant advantage over UA in heavy weapons. Only slight advantage UA has over Orcs is in 155mm SPGs - about 50 units on both sides, just a tiny segment of the overall equipment: 4,000 pieces of artillery with unlimited shells on Orc side verses 1,500-1,800 on UA side with limited shells.

Manpower has shrunk; they started with >200,000 troops, and now have ~150,000 battle-ready troops. RGF has ~260,000 professional soldiers and many conscripts. They now have same sort of density in East as they did at the start of the war. Density of troops is best way to think of the war. Where are they and who has the most in any one spot. Concentrate troops on the key points of attack.

The concentration in the Izyum area and Donbas salient ended up burning up troops, so in the beginning of April, the new generals changed focus to the smaller salient around Severodonetsk. This was the first real maneuver of troops from their initial position to new areas of concentration. This maneuver with a short frontline created a significant advantage over the UA in that area. But while this allowed them to take Izyum, Lyman and Severodonetsk, the Orcs have burnt out those troops as well.

So the dilemma that now faces them is they cannot create any meaningful concentration on any part of the frontline. So now they are approaching a critical moment - they have to do something. Orcs are a “slowly melting ice cube” in terms of battle-ready manpower. They have to declare some form of mobilization because they just do not have enough troops to create any meaningful concentration to take objectives. Right now, they have pushed the Ukraine back, captured territory, done a lot of damage, but at the same time the loss of so many of the best troops is a phyric victory. As a general rule, professional (contract) soldiers want to fight, but conscripts do not.

The UA is in the same boat, having lost or burned out their best troops, like those who defended Mariupol’.

In the next week or two, the situation will become clear, as the moving components change in a very dynamic situation.

———————————————————————————————————————
Summary: Ukrainian forces are losing control over Severodonetsk. No major changes otherwise.

Key areas:
- Izyum bridgehead: no changes.
- Lyman bridgehead - only Svyatohirsk bridgehead remains in Ukrainian hands.
- Severodonetsk - Ukrainian troops lost most of the town - Popasna area: no changes.
- Svitlodarsk area: no changes.
- Donetsk West: no changes
- Kherson bridgehead: attack by Ukrainian troops from Davydiv Brid towards Beryslav is stopped by Russian artillery and air strikes. No changes.

1. Kharkiv: no changes, Ternova is captured by Russian forces, Rubizhne is in UA hands. Low intensity fighting.

2. Izyum bridgehead. It is extremely dangerous penetration by Russian troops that potentially could lead to large pocket for Ukrainian troops west of Donetsk. Many Russian units from there were transferred to a salient near Popasna to exploit initial successes of Russian troops there. No changes today.

3. Lyman bridgehead. Only Svyatohirsk remains under Ukrainian control, Russian attack on it. Eventually, it will be lost similar to the rest of Lyman bridgehead.

4. Rubizhne: captured by Russian troops

5. Severodonetsk - Ukrainian troops are losing control of the town pretty quickly - they lost all of the town, only industrial facilities (”Azot” chemical plant) are still in Ukrainian hands.
••The heights of the south side of the river at 120-150m create great defensive position as the can see all the way to the eastern city edge and the business district.

6. Popasna area. No Russian advances today.

7. Svtilodarsk area: No Russian advances today.

8. West of Donetsk: Avdiyivka and Maryinka. No changes today.

9. Vugledar is in Ukrainian hands. No changes today.

10. Velyka Novosilka - Gulyapole stretch of frontline. No changes.

11. Kherson bridgehead: Ukrainian army attacked from area near Davydiv Brid, pushed into Russian defenses till village Bruskynske (controlled by Ukrainian army). Russian troops failed in their attempt to counter-attack and cut off Ukrainian forces.
However, Ukrainian troops were stopped in Bruskynske by Russian artillery fire and air attacks. Russian troops retreated to village Kostromka. No changes today.
••How Orcs win - the advance was stopped mostly by artillery fire with some help from air power.
••Orlon-10s are a strategic problem that the UA does no know how to deal with now.
••All the modern artillery the UA got is in the Izyum-Popasna-Velyka Novosilka area. They have only old Soviet stuff here. Also with the lack of good UAVs, the lack of quality of UA high command makes it worse.
••Attack was original and creative, using pontoon bridges west of original bridge. 36th took heavy casualties and troops made stink about lack of equipment etc. Neither side has troops to move forward.

totally off topic, but...

4 MQ-1C Gray Eagle drones that can be armed with Hellfire missiles. US Army version of the Predator.

Why does the Army need a version of an Air Force weapon? Does the Air Force get a version of an M1 Abrahms or Bradley? Why not an aircraft carrier for F-22s?

The separation of forces hammered out in the Key West agreement from the late 40s was supposed to cure this kind of wasteful spending.

Full disclosure: I am retired Air Force, so know about this issue.

Why does the Army need a version of an Air Force weapon?

Simple answer: because the AF is a not always available for Army missions. And its not wasteful: the GE has different specs and abilities.

The rest of your comment is just silly.

HIMARS will need the 4 Grey Eagles (to be announced) to be effective as will the 777s.
