About 4 months before my dad died, I took him to see the doctor at the VA hospital in Walla Walla. He was having a hard time breathing so they had him on oxygen. Finally the doctor came in and ask my dad if he smoked. Dad said yep. The doc asked how much. Dad said about 4-5 packs a day.
The doctor then asked him if he ever thought about quitting. Dad asked him back “did you ever think about not giving me free cigarettes for 30 years!”
That was the last time smoking was mentioned.
