Italy, who gets most of their natural gas from Russia, has said energy sanctions are off the table. I imagine Germany is sending the same message as Italy that energy is a no go. And the other potential tough sanction, barring Russia from the SWIFT system, is also opposed by Western Europe to protect Western European creditors. The 2 sanctions that mattered are off the table. So, the sanctions regime emperor has no clothes. They can neither be biting or severe. because of our NATO allies’ resistance. Putin knows this. And. exactly why are we wasting our time on this essentially European issue that has little bearing on our national security? Western Europe, whose energy interests are aligned with Russia, has little interest in it other than paying it feigned concern and lip service? Biden, who had the rug pulled out from under him by Western European allies when it came to sanctions, is Charlie Brown to Wetsern Europe’s Lucy and the football.

There is no reason for Putin to be frightened. There are so many sanctions on Russia that anything new has near zero marginal impact. Europe isn’t going to go along with anything meaningful anyway. This is an absolute blunder on Biden’s part. He is driving Russia closer to China. By the way, there is no effort on Biden’s part to become better friends with India. Imagine a China-Russia alliance and an India-Russia alliance. I doubt if India will get in bed with China tho.
