For the past few years, the center-left Social Democrats have ruled with the actual or tacit support of one or more center-right parties, in addition to support from parties to its left. The deal has been: the Social Democrats can rule BUT ... the parties to the right of center set the budget, keeping Sweden’s budget in balance and its tax burden unchanged.
The far left parties chafe (feel restricted) under this arrangement. And, so, after the latest budget, one of the two parties to the left of the Social Democrats (the Greens) withdrew their support.
As to why the parties of the right (the Moderates, Liberals, Christian Democrats and Center Party, along with the populist Swedish Democrats) don’t just form government themselves, it is because the Swedish Democrats are considered anathema to some among the right. As a result, there are three factions in the Swedish parliament, none of which can gain a majority by itself: the left, the moderate right, and the populist right. So, some kind of deal has to be made.
A growing number of Swedes are of the opinion that the current foolishness has been going on for too long, and that the parties of the right should get over their differences (through compromises and such) and form the government.
“Europe’s in turmoil” because a Swedish PM resigned. 😂
The Green Party is green like a watermelon. Only green on the outside but RED on the inside.
She has a headache.
No its what you get with so many multiple separate small party factions.
The far left doesn’t exist in Europe apparently
> Of the 349 members of the Riksdag, 174 voted against her. But on top of the 117 MPs who backed Ms Andersson, a further 57 abstained, giving her victory by a single vote.
In the article the “far right” party isn’t named, because the BBC, just like the Swedish Greens, are horrible bigots.
Sweden Democrats (Sverigedemokraterna). According to the wiki-wacky, the other parties are the Moderate Party (Moderata samlingspartiet), Centre Party (Centerpartiet), Left Party (Vänsterpartiet), Christian Democrats (Kristdemokraterna), Liberals (Liberalerna), Green Party (Miljöpartiet de Gröna).
So what - They didn’t quit after a few hours.
So what - They didn’t quit after a few hours.
We’ll all be dead one day too
