It shouldn’t be news that a man who believes the Fourth of July is a celebration of white supremacy has other ignorant takes on American history. But the left has made a hero out of former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, so his effort to compare the NFL draft to slavery in his new Netflix special is noteworthy.

Kapernick is right on this one. Remember Curt Flood? The athletes have no choice where they work or how they get paid. The NFL draft is illegal on the face of it.

I didn’t realize the really good slaves got multi-million dollar signing bonuses.

Maybe don’t work for the NFL then? They can always use their free degrees they received...

“Eli Manning was selected by the San Diego Chargers with the number one overall pick in the 2004 NFL draft, but he did not want to play for the Chargers, so they traded him to the Giants.” Some apparently have the right to refuse.

It does seem weird that the US is the only country where professional teams have drafts.

In the rest of the world, for soccer, generally they have academies to develop young talent and then go out and recruit and sign players, just like college football.

All the slaves earn more than 98% of the slaveowners and if they save their money wisely live better as well. Kinda odd.

Eli Manning was big enough to call the shots. Look at DeShawn Watson. No trade clause.

You know the NFL can end this garbage simply by reinstating him and demanding that the LA Raiders bench their current QB and start CK. Since they forced Gruden to resign over benign emails then they need to make an example of how tolerant they are.

When they start chaining them to oaks and beating them with whips, let me know.

Nobody is forcing Kapernick or anyone else into the NFL Draft against their free will, so it is not equal to slavery.

Some high-schooler ought to challenge the legality of the draft. 18 year-olds have just as much right to earn a living as a a 22 year old that got free training in the college(minor league) system.

Just like Elway didn’t want to play in Baltimore.

Tell that to Curt Flood. He was a millionaire and still a slave. The NFL needs a Snidely Whiplash like baseballs Marvin Miller.

Oddly, it's our pro sports that practice "equity", this draft thing apparently is so they get some sort of organized shot at perceived equity. Poorer financial team don't suffer from being outbid and poorer quality teams get first choice. Do they have payroll caps in Europe?

Wrong. Kapernick and Flood could choose not to work at all if they wish to do so. That was not an option for slaves. However, Kapernick isn't qualified to do anything other than play with a ball. His choice (before he met his girlfriend and went stupid) was to play football and make millions in income or be unemployed. He chose to be unemployed. That's a choice slaves did not have.

Yep. At the combines the overseers use stopwatches and tape measures instead of whips. If you don’t perform, no money, no food. Kaepernick has a point.

Well, let’s spin this narrative. The NFL are SLAVEHOLDERS. Now, everyone shout, and repeat NFL are SLAVEHOLDERS.. Again, and again, soon everyone will believe. Probably to change the narrative they just need to make slaves out of WHITE people. That would end this tune.
