As to the charges, states use different terminology, and I have no idea what the law in New Mexico says. It’s probable that there was no “malice aforethought” as California uses the term, so he didn’t “mean to kill her”. But he recklessly showed no regard at all for the well being of the people he aimed at. If you or I had done that, we’d be in custody, and rightly so.
He’s getting a pass in the media for who he is, imho.
