Never understood why its being called a “prop gun” when it seems to be a real fully functional gun being used as a prop .

Why do they even use real guns in a stupid movie? There are guns available that fire only blanks.
If it was a cap and ball, there were no cartridges, and no such thing as "blanks".
You would have a very light powder load, held in place by a wad and some grease or lard.
In film, they use cartridge conversion cylinders placed into a cap and ball revolver using cartridge blanks.

By the time you try to verbalize it it’s too late. I have a very good friend whose 9 pound Pomeranian shot him in the knee. A true progressive cascade of event failures that unfold in the blink of an eye. It was an accident he was shot but the gun discharged because the trigger was pulled.
