I think they realize they're broken. They feel broken all the time. So they desperately need everyone to affirm, and affirm, and affirm yet again their delusions. Yet it's never enough.
It takes only one remark -- "You're not a woman" -- to burst their bubble, and thus send them into psychotic rage and violent hysterics.
Yep, it's the whole "self-loathing narcissist" thing that many gays deal with. Instead of being comfortable with who they are, they are immensely bothered if they suspect that somewhere someone disapproves of them. They have to force everybody to accept them and to agree that they are special so that they can in turn accept themselves.
