WP and others chose to attack Trump because they picked on what he mentioned that the celebrations by Muslims on 9/11 was in NJ, by the thousands.
It appears that some Muslims did applaud it in NJ ( https://www.nj.com/news/2015/12/exclusive_jersey_city_cop_residents_say_some_musli.html ) but the ‘thousands’ were among Palestinian-Arabs. Such as the 3,000 in Nablus ( https://wc.arizona.edu/papers/95/17/05_4_m.html ) and 1,500 in Gaza ( http://web.archive.org/web/20010915160506/http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/aponline/20010914/aponline180932_000.htm ) , plus in Lebanon too.
