Paul Ryan doesn’t get it

Paul Ryan doesn't get it. I'm not sure he ever did.

Ryan made a speech at the Reagan Library condemning the populist appeal of Donald Trump.

And here's the reality that we have to face: If the conservative cause depends on the populist appeal of one personality, or on second-rate imitations, then we're not going anywhere. Voters looking for Republican leaders want to see independence and mettle. They will not be impressed by the sight of yes-men and flatterers flocking to Mar-a-Lago.
Let's look at a couple of definitions. First, populism
populism   NOUN support for the concerns of ordinary people.
Second, conservatism
conservatism   NOUN the holding of political views that favor free enterprise, private ownership, and socially conservative ideas.
Paul Ryan was a champion of the status quo and clashed with Trump on a number of issues, including the TPP and NATO. Ryan was satisfied with the US footing almost the entire NATO bill while Trump negotiated to have other nations pay their fair share.

Ryan was all for the TPP but many, Trump included, were not. The TPP was called "NAFTA on steroids." Richard Trumka called it "A bad deal for American workers."  Even the MSNBC creatures had a problem with it:

But when it comes to deals like these, including NAFTA, another trade deal also on Trump's chopping block, "It just hasn't worked. That's the problem," said Velshi. The issue is that although the government is helping creating wealth for these companies, there's no mandate that they spend it on hiring or wages. "Companies love free trade," said Velshi. "Companies get to share profits with shareholders, the government gets the taxes, but workers don't get their fair share."   "This is all diplomacy. There is no benefit," said Derek Scissors, a China specialist at the conservative American Enterprise Institute. "The idea was diplomatic rather than economic."
Ryan left office in 2019.

Trump was right about NATO and he was right about the TPP. Since retiring, Ryan has taken seats on the Boards of Directors of several corporations. Being on such boards is a usually quite lucrative.

Thing is, Ryan doesn't get it. Donald Trump wasn't a polished politician but he cared more for his country than for his wealth. He cared for Americans of all color and religions. Ryan added

'If we fail this test, it will be because the progressive left will have won by default,' he said. 'It will be because the conservative cause lost its way and followed the left into the trap of identity politics, defining itself by resentments instead of by ideals. 'It will be because we mistake reactionary skirmishes in the culture wars with a coherent agenda. It will be because we gave too much allegiance to one passing political figure and weren't loyal enough to our principles.'
Ryan underestimates American conservatives. Trump got 75 million votes in the last election. It wasn't because of his personality. It wasn't about too much allegiance to one "passing political figure."

According to Paul Ryan, what GOP voters want is more RINO, cheap labor fellatores who never forget to don their knee pads for the globalist, anti-American donor class, just as he did in the house.

Never forget that this turd blocked many of Trump's most important initiatives in the first two years.

Ryno’s suddenly concerned about the “conservative cause”?

Funny how he stonewalled all of the conservative legislation that Trump was backing, when he was SOTH.

The little Eddie Munster look-alike is nothing but an assistant democrat. You can’t polish a turd....well, not his type anyway.

What is it with people supposedly on our side who pretend that intelligent people “ don’t get something?”

Of course they get it! But they have chosen to do the wrong thing instead.

“Paul Ryan doesn’t get it. I’m not sure he ever did. “

I believe Ryan along with a lot of the DC Swamp Republicans did their best to get rid of the “we the People” President Trump and I consider all of them to be traitors to the Constitution of the US.

PRyan doesn’t recognize the value of a leader, even if he is not perfect. Also, PR has all too often clung to the motto of : “go along to get along”. I don’t want to get along with evil, and that is precisely what the other side of the aisle is peddling. I want leaders who are willing to fight, brutally. Call the opposition on everything, on the smallest detail, like changing the definitions of words so as to further a lie. Call individuals names if that is what is needed to get attention.
I used to live in Tx. I recall a debate in state congress. Two politicos were going at each other. One said “go to ‘Ell, yah curly headed bastid!” The other replied with the ever popular (and my favorite) : “Eat death scum and die!”
Now, there is some good expression of difference of opinions. The most the US congress has come up with was: “You lie!”. Geesh. Wimps.

And why exactly is the Reagan Presidential Library hosting this worm? Who's running things there?

We should thank the Paul Ryans, the Murkowskis, the McConnells and the Romneys. They serve to consistently remind us of the past failures of their brand of conversatism and what is at stake in the future: Business as usual or a new path forward. I know where my money and vote will follow.

Why is he allowed in at the Reagan Library?
Shouldn’t alarm bells go off when he arrived?

If he criticized the populist appeal of Donald Trump, I'll bet he was really hard on the socialist policies of Joe Biden. /s

Before he became Speaker of the House, Ryan pledged to follow the law and return to a process in which individual appropriates bills are presented to the President to sign or veto. Ryan claimed to be a fiscal conservative and despite his failings on other conservative issues, I had great hope that this would allow return to process where the different pieces of the federal budget could be debated and negotiated, instead of the giant take-it-or-leave-it Omnibus appropriations bill that is stuffed down our throats each year.

Ryan promised we would return to the normal appropriations process, required by law. Ryan had four budget cycles to keep his promise. He never even attempted to keep this process once.

That tells me all we I need to know about Ryan. He has never been a conservative, even in the fiscal sense.

Ryan gets it.
He knows exactly what he is doing.
He is trying to herd GOP voters back to voting for TransRepublicans (Democrats in R jerseys).
