Jeff Greenfield: Divided GOP Civil War Is a Media Myth
Newsbusters ^ | May 15, 2021 | P.J. Gladnick

Watch or read the mainstream media news and a constant theme they have been promoting incessantly since the election (and well before that) is of a divided Republican Party engaged in a civil war. Well, longtime political reporter and Politico columnist Jeff Greenfield took a look at that claim and described it as wishful thinking hogwash.

Although Greenfield dislikes Trump and had plenty to trash Republicans on, he has been around long enough to know how easily liberals can be deceived into the smug comfort of false hope by the media.

Much as he probably hated it, Greenfield admits the GOP is now UNITED in support of Trump. The idea of a GOP civil war is most definitely a wishful thinking media MYTH.

The only place never-Trumpers are seen is DC and in their useless, dinosaur periodicals - all fake news org run by globaloid scabs.

There were some never-Trumpers in Texas at one time clustering around Ted Cruz, but they're seen even less than Bill Kristol these days.

The RINOs are a tiny fraction of the GOP.

I wouldn’t mind a hot civil war with them.

The GOP is divided, but so long as it’s 975% on one side and 3% on the other then it isn’t going to hurt much, if at all.

There IS small division:

there’s 700 NeverTrumpers living around DC and a hundred million of us who support Trump living in flyover...

>>> The RINOs are a tiny fraction of the GOP.

I used to believe this before Jan 6, 2021.

AS far as i’m concerned, every last one of them that did not contest the fraud are rinos.

A civil war is coming, but not within the GOP.

Jeff Greenfield is anti Trump? I’d have to see proof of that, newsbusters.

Inside every party is a small number trying to advance their own interest at any cost. Swampers, Da Squad, RINOs.

From the original column: “The small handful who denounced the former president for his massive lies about the election and his seeding of an insurrectionist riot” (https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2021/05/12/gop-civil-war-dont-bet-on-it-487192)

True they are a tiny faction but they still have a lot of pull in many state parties. We have several in NC who think the election was fairly won by joementia!

That’s a difficult decision for elected officials to make. They could see that there had been Democrat shenanigans, but they didn’t see any way that the reported results could be set aside for those that would make Trump the winner. The clock was ticking down. What to do? It’s easy to sit at home and say what they should have done, but not so easy to decide what to do when you actually have to take the responsibility on yourself.

Under this logic, there is absolutely NO REASON for congress to certify election results.

The constitution CHARGES congress with the duty of certifying the election results to PREVENT EXACTLY WHAT TOOK PLACE!... State level corruption and foreign insurrection of our elective process.

Anyone who could not see what was going on DOES NOT BELONG IN OFFICE!

IT WAS their duty to stop it.

I wouldn’t call what’s happening a civil war. More like a bunch of folks are deciding that they don’t want to be a part of something.

Maybe they’re, deserters or conscientious objectors. Not sure.

More from Greenfield: “after four years of unhinged government, after credible evidence of obstruction of justice, after a pandemic death toll directly linked to presidential indifference and ignorance … Trump won 12 million more votes than he had four years earlier”

Same here in Georgia. They’re the ones that are using their positions to get rich and don’t care.
