Two decades ago, when I was relocating to Singapore (for a 4 year stint as it turned out), a friend advised me that the key to keeping your sanity in that prototypical ‘police surveillance state’ was to deliberately break one rule or law, per day. It didn’t have to be a significant rule, and nobody had to see you do it, but it had to be willful disobedience, not just absentmindedness.

Turns out that I will have to apply that advice here in the USA also, alas

I run red lights from a srop. Especially left turns. My little rebellion. And nevee wear a mask.
