I don't know how many of you are into biking, but those of us who are, I thought I would show a neat product for the casual bicyclist.
It's an electrical conversion for nearly any standard bicycle. It gives enough power to equate to leg power for about an hour. It's meant for those who wouldn't mind biking for up to an hour in one direction before needing to recharge it.
I just think it's a neat niche product.
It’s easy to charge as well, because the power unit disconnects from the bike and you can carry that into the house or business and charge it during the day or for the next morning.
Use your feet and pedal. The exercise is good for you!!!
Getting over hills without dying is nice too.
The product only uses electricity when you are actively pedaling. It is an assist for what may be too difficult for you.
Does it come with power steering and power brakes?
Whats special about this one as opposed to the hundred other similar kits that have been out for the past 10 or 15 years?
There are three advantages, that I can think of, that make it different that attracts me.
The power kit only weighs about 3lbs. So, whatever the bike you want to convert will only weigh about 3lbs more. If you look at the weight of most other electrical bikes, that were built to be electrical bikes, they are often 40 or 50lbs. This kit will turn a light 20lb bike into a 23lb bike. That’s an advantage if you run out of juice on your ride.
Another advantage, in my mind, is that if you need to recharge it, you only have to charge the pack that sits on front. It disconnects easily enough, This way, you only have to bring the kit into the house or business. You don’t have to to bring in the whole bike and find room for it to recharge it. You can just bring in a kit that needs 8” by about 6” and recharge it.
The third advantage is cost. It’s about $1500USD, but if pre-order, it’s about about $1000USD. You’re not going to find an electric bike for anything less than $2500.
No. You’re converting a regular bike, so the brakes is just your bike.
No heated steering wheel either, unfortunately. :)
"1.5kg Power Pack and 1.5kg motor"
That's not 3 lbs. 3kg = 13.2 lbs.
There have been lightweight hub motors available for at least 10-15 years. (Bafang, ...) The lighter ones are usually geared (torque multiplier) to make up for the smaller winding size of a smaller hub motor.
And as far as bringing the charging pack (battery+charger) with you, that's common.
And $1000 or $1500 is way, way overpriced. I could do this same setup for about $400 or less.

I hate city planners, who think it is their job to put bikes on an equal plane with cars. In my city, we’ve put bike lanes down the main lanes and removed car lanes to make them fit.
When I was a full-time bicyclist, I always rode along the lesser used streets. It didnt’ really take any extra time, maybe two minutes or so on each ride, but hardly worth the hassle of fighting with cars.
If we are to plan cities properties, to account for bikes, we would be better off to build decent off-road pathways, where they would not be at risk.
Ok. Your math is off as well. I admit that I wasn’t accounting for the wheel weight.
However, 3kg is 6.6lbs. Basically 6.5lbs. Which is still not too much weight in the overall picture.
I’m not an engineer, so I’m willing to overpay a bit for a ready to use product. It saves me about $120CDN gas each month. I could basically pay for this just on the gas saved in one year.
It’s good if you can do it to your satisfaction for $400 or $500
Just look around on Amazon. There are lots of complete, ready to go e-bike kits like this for a lot less than what they are charging.
I will do that. Much appreciated.
Personally don’t like geared motors because just more parts to wear our and fail.
Use your feet and pedal. The exercise is good for you!!!

Non-motor assisted bikes are pretty much worthless anywhere there are hills or mountains.
The laws of physics will see to it that electric cars and electric bicycles are still gimmicks.
