I’m not sure there’s much else he can do. All of these troops and ridiculous measures are being requested by DC authorities, and he knows that if he doesn’t do it and something happens - some incident committed by a leftist instigator, for example - his followers will be blamed no matter what and will be subject to very harsh measures, even worse than now. Honestly, no conservative or even Republican (other than those in Congress) will even attend this faux inauguration.
On the other hand, while the left believes it is creating the appearance of having to protect itself from violent conservatives, it actually has more the look of a coup cabal protecting itself from the people and the legitimate government. The optics are not good for the left.
The correct question is, where is Trump? And where is Obama?

I got something this am from Twitter( which I don’t use) that said Trump told his family and friends to get out of DC last night due to security issues.. Who knows if that’s true or not.
