The New York Times claims in a new report that the Department of Justice has plans to file antitrust charges against Google within the coming weeks.

Yawn. That just means they will break it up and, like the Baby Bells a couple of generations ago, make the investors richer than ever, with the monopolistic forces largely still in effect, coalescing ever greater over time.
Obama holdovers leaking plans at an early stage to try and torpedo them.
One of those Baby Bells was South Western Bell.
They grew from a regional carrier and bought AT&T and became AT&T. Then bought up everyone else...full circle.

Breaking these monsters up is required by long standing anti-monopoly laws.

Don’t forget Verizon, which sprang out of NYNEX.
Together with the present day AT&T, they have over 60% of the US mobile carrier market today.
During the 80s in Florida at least GTE was the local carrier for landlines and was bought out or rebranded as Verizon.
