Have they gotten rid of the virus? They are still wearing masks and are living on pins and needles. Seems like I read that they canceled school early because of a few cases in the general population

However, for the last few weeks, their deaths have been at nearly zero. Sounds like a bit of a win to me.

Will that hold? Maybe, maybe not.

They did it without destroying their economy and their country.

When I go to the stores I wear a neck gaiter like a turtle neck. I pull it up when I go into the store. It's comfortable and I can breath through it. I know it isn't very effective at stopping the virus, but it is 100% effective at soothing the terror of those around me. I'm just being polite. I find that being polite outweighs the inconvenience. It also keeps me from inhaling gnats when fishing or mowing!

Here’s the video I mentioned earlier.

Time well spent.

The whole ‘effing article refers to workers in hospitals. None of it is relevant to “civilians.”

But the point they are making, which is lost to so many people, is the mask protects the spread from asymptomatic people to other people.

MY point is that on FR the anti mask people will read anything and point to any article that says that masks are not “effective” and parade it around like its gospel...and a good reason to not wear a mask.

And then, I have had Freepers ask how “Taiwan, Hong Kong, etc have so few cases.” I had someone ask why MA was moving along with their Phase 3 opening.

Duh...they all are compliant wearing masks—and have been. No one has passed out. No one has died from lack of O2. People are not shouting at each other. We just re-opened the friggin casinos and restaurants.

Why? Because are not looking for an excuse NOT to do the effective (it has nothing to do with being sheep) thing. Many Freeper are so focused on this being a conspiracy that they will be locked down until NEXT spring. Except then, they won’t accept the vaccine because its the sign of the beast.

Do whatever you want. But don’t dismiss what is MOST effective because someone tells you its effective. Some folks are not only ignorant (something for which there is a cure) but they are just damned stupid.

The whole thing is about hospitals. Duh.

Riddle me this: How come MA has come back from some of the worst numbers to being virtually covid free, with almost no growth.

How come we are seeing almost not growth in areas where mask wearing and hygiene are being used.

And I am not talking about growth in “cases” but in ICU days and hospitalization—the only two metrics that matter.

But yeah, keep going folks. Your stupidity will keep your areas closed down for another year.

If the masks don’t work—why are the areas where people are compliant doing better?

Is it just because we don’t wipe our ass with our fingers?

Have you noticed that no east Asian country has been strongly affected by the virus? And that Asians are the least affected in the US?

https://amp-scmp-com.cdn.ampproject.org/v/s/amp.scmp.com/news/china/article/3084947/asians-us-least-likely-get-coronavirus-infection-data-suggests?amp_js_v=a3&amp_gsa=1&usqp=mq331AQFKAGwASA%3D#aoh=15946550346553&referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com&amp_tf=From%20%251%24s&ampshare=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.scmp.com%2Fnews%2Fchina%2Farticle%2F3084947%2Fasians-us-least-likely-get-coronavirus-infection-data-suggests

NEJM still says that masks prevent transmitting to others, but do not prevent infection of the mask wearer — meaning that wearing masks is not the likely reason for low infection rates for Asians in the US.

Put it all together, and what do you get?

I would like someone to come up with proof that masks do something to limit the virus. I mean real proof. Proof with data showing how many have survived because they wore a mask. Real proof. Not blathering by the CD and NIH that have lied to us for the full extent of this so-called epidemic.

Now we have great fear because of the numbers coming out of Florida, Arizona and Texas. Funny that these are Republican run states.

Really tired of the scare tactics of the left keeping this panic going. Probably be over by November if the dummy gets elected.

Because masks are not 100% effective. They work best if worn by both infected and uninfected. Less so if worn by only infected and even less if worn only by uninfected. However, they still measurably reduce infection in each case.

Not wearing masks because they are not a silver bullet would be a case of letting the "perfect be the enemy of the good."

LMK if you'd like a link to a description of the study.

“NEJM still says that masks prevent transmitting to others, but do not prevent infection of the mask wearer”

A lot of medical workers and first responders will be happy to know that, since it means they can get rid of their masks.

"Nextdoor is overrun with Karens and Chads...."

It is, but we must tactfully push back. There are plenty who don't want to pipe up but are on the right side.

It doesn't help when crap like this gets posted....

Show me actual results. How many people have been saved by the use of the mask? I’ve never seen anything other then the CDC and NIH spout of about these masks.

Results, actual results not more of the crap we have been fed by the above experts.

But how much do you trust “public health authorities” and their definitions?

What about someone exposed to the public all day long, in many short exposures, or in a place with poor air exchange?

NOT for use in a healthcare setting.

Hmmmm....

I am a mask wearer. I do not have an N95 supply. Suppose my mask gives 80% protection against both infection and transmission. I will wear it because that is still a significant level of protection on the occasions I must be out.

Suppose you wear a similar mask. Then the chances of one of us infecting the other multiply as fractions, 0.20 x 0.20 = 0.04 = 4% . That is much better than a 20% chance.

And if both of us wear masks, we are driving R, the number of people each infected person infects, below 1. Below 1, the virus dies out. The smaller R is, the quicker it dies out. Of course that depends on more than your behaviour and mine.

This virus is spread primarily by Fecal-Oral, the virus is in the Feces of the infected.

Now the average person passes gas several times a day, if your infected with the virus then your emitting a viral load.

Will a mask really help you then?

Riddle me this: How come MA has come back from some of the worst numbers to being virtually covid free, with almost no growth.

That's a good question. Maybe, it's because MA shutdown faster, harder, and stayed closed longer than pretty much every state, except New York?

Maybe, it's because they've already had so many deaths? I mean, MA has 10X as many Death's per Million as those idiots in Texas.

It should be studied. I'm pretty confident that the difference won't be "10-20%" higher numbers wore masks. It's not like no one is wearing them in Texas.

Trying to stop a virus with an ill-fitting cloth mask it like trying to stop a fart smell with cotton underwear.

And yet, the authors are quite adamant in their opening paragraph that masks are unnecessary in most situations. I went shopping today. Never spent more than three seconds in close proximity to anyone. But still I’m asked to wear a mask. Though I may choose to wear one in many situations, I resent and oppose these “little king mandates” that I must wear one anytime I go inside any public building.
