followup: note journOlist boss, Ezra Klein, on the panel with Rossmiller, per Politico article.

20 Feb 2008: Prospect: STILL BROKEN.
by Ezra Klein
I’ve been waiting to post on Alex Rossmiller’s Still Broken till I could peg it to TAP’s conversation around the book. The talk, which features SPENCER ACKERMAN interviewing Alex, is now up, and well worth a read. As for the book (and full disclosure: Alex is a friend, and I’m in the acknowledgements), it records Alex’s time working with the Defense Intelligence Agency on Iraq issues...
Ezra Klein is a former Prospect writer and current editor-in-chief at Vox.

The public documents are signed by Audrey Strauss.

21 Jun: NYT: Trump Fired Her Boss. Now She’s Taking Cases That Incensed White House.
Audrey Strauss has been a behind-the-scenes force in the U.S. attorney’s office in Manhattan as it pursued cases against people connected to President Trump
By Benjamin Weiser, Nicole Hong and Ben Protess; Jack Begg contributed research
She will lead politically sensitive investigations into people in Mr. Trump’s orbit in the run-up to a hotly contested election, and her decisions will be scrutinized...
Ms. Strauss’s appointment happened with dizzying speed...
In that role, she will oversee a number of investigations that have upset the president, including the inquiry into whether Rudolph W. Giuliani, Mr. Trump’s lawyer, broke lobbying laws in his dealings in Ukraine...

But Ms. Strauss is likely to remain the acting U.S. attorney until at least the election. The Senate goes out of session in August and is unlikely to hold a nomination hearing for any permanent replacement before November...
When Mr. Berman took over as U.S. attorney in 2018, he brought Ms. Strauss out of retirement to become his senior counsel and later his deputy...
Ms. Strauss and Mr. Berman have known each other for at least three decades. They worked together in the late 1980s on the independent counsel’s investigation into the Iran-contra scandal...

Ms. Strauss’s husband, John “Rusty” Wing, a prominent white-collar defense lawyer, is a registered Republican, according to the most recent records from the New York State Board of Elections. Their son, who previously worked as Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo’s press secretary, is married to a senior aide to Mr. Cuomo.

Campaign finance records show that Ms. Strauss is a longtime donor to Democratic candidates, including Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign in 2007 and Barack Obama’s re-election campaign in 2012. She contributed in 2006 to Joe Biden’s presidential campaign...

Lindsey Graham, the Republican Senator from South Carolina, praised Ms. Strauss, saying she was “widely viewed as a highly competent, highly capable deputy U.S. attorney with the knowledge and experience to hit the ground running.”
On Friday, Mr. Graham, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, had signaled that he would allow New York’s Democratic senators to block Mr. Trump’s first choice, Mr. Clayton, to replace Mr. Berman...

Ms. Strauss has already supervised sensitive cases from which Mr. Berman had been recused, including an ongoing investigation into Stephen Calk, a Chicago bank executive who served as an economic adviser to Mr. Trump’s campaign.
Mr. Calk was indicted in the Southern District last year after he was accused of giving millions of dollars in high-risk loans to Paul Manafort, Mr. Trump’s former campaign chairman, in an effort to obtain a senior position in the administration. Mr. Calk has pleaded not guilty, and his trial is scheduled to begin in September.
Ms. Strauss was the one who signed the indictment against Mr. Calk.

That is disheartening. Is there any chance that this is an opportunity to entrap Rossmiller & any other partisan leftists on the team when they try & play fast & loose?
