Don’t get excited.

This Twitter post is a classic example of not getting the memo. The fireworks story is a month old. Fireworks have been going off like never before in cities across the US since May. The left has been claiming for weeks, in dozens of articles, that it is a protest against the killing of George Floyd. It’s been all over my local Next Door site, too, including republished articles by navel-gazing Wokesters claiming that fireworks in Boston and Brooklyn are a big protest message.

Now, the day AFTER July 4, I see two posts on FR claiming that the fireworks LAST NIGHT, and ONLY last night (been asleep since Memorial Day much?) are some great conservative cry of defiance.

I don’t buy either theory. We’ve had fireworks going off here since Memorial day. In my neighborhood, it’s all minorities doing it, as is the case every year, because that’s who lives here. They vote Democrat if they vote at all, but aren’t rabidly political. The police do nothing and everyone knows it. The idea that anyone is defying a potential $50,000 fine is idiot-grade goofy. The laws exist only on paper.

I think it’s just because people have nothing else to do.

Nah.

This country went BOOM last night.

Yes there were fireworks going before July 4 but nothing like last night.

I disagree for the most part. While we have taken note of the fireworks all over the country being set off the last monthor so, last night was something else entirely.

This wasn't some “conservative” “pushback”.

The powers that be decided to cancel our annual celebration. This resulted in an excess of high grade Fireworks along with idle hands and some extra cash from the stimulus. This was a significant factor for the fireworks over the last several weeks.

Last night seemed to me to be more of a general “Revolt” by Americans regardless of political leanings. We were told no, now go home and cower while awaiting their next proclamation.

Our response seemed to be that we'll only listen to a point, and that we don't need their approval to celebrate and have a good time.

I share that opinion. Where I live, fireworks always went off all summer long, maybe because there never was much to do around here.

Not in my neighborhood. No fireworks set off until last night. I’ve lived here 21 years and I’ve never heard so many set off like last night.

We have lots of fireworks going off starting around memorial day with increasing intensity as the 4th get nearer - every year. This year, it’s been comparatively quite, until yesterday. Lots of fireworks into the wee hours.

There have been fireworks in my Philly suburban neighborhood for the past couple of months. One or two houses a weekend.

This past weekend the fireworks themselves were larger, were from a much greater number of homes, and went much later into the night.
