Slept on R&B song from the 80s. Also sampled by Will Smith in "Men in Black." Enjoy.

Very pleasant, and expertly done.
I saw another of my favorites on that YouTube page:
:Boogie-Oogie-Oogie!

An often overlooked gem of that time
is “Strawberry Letter 23” by Brothers Johnson.
Beautiful harmonies and a lush production, creative theme.
That was their biggest and only hit.

This song was also in the 1988 movie “Big”.

A good song too. Early 80’s. 1982, I think.

Strawberry Letter 23 is an incredible song, however, it peaked at Number 5 on US charts. I’ll be Good to You peaked at 3 and Stomp peaked at 7. So they were no One Hit Wonders.

The Brothers Johnson actually had a string of hits from 1976 through the early 1980s. "Strawberry Letter 23" (#5 on the pop charts) wasn't even their biggest hit as "I'll Be Good To You" hit #3. They were even bigger on the R&B charts during those years.

Still, "Strawberry Letter 23" is my favorite of their songs.

Listing to the Top 700 songs this weekend on the Sirius/XM 70s station. This afternoon, I'll stream Tom Petty's Top 100 songs. That will be interesting as I can only name about 40 TP songs off the top of my head.
