The Battle of Franklin was a Abolitionist defeat but they gutted the Rebel army of John Hood.

Make the trip to Memphis and visit Graceland.

I would agree. If you are into music, Memphis is the epicenter of American popular music (in my opinion, more so than Nashville).

Blues,Rock, Bluegrass,Country. Elvis certainly in Memphis, but so much more. Sun Records, Stax Records, Beale Street, the Memphis Rock and Soul Museum, Gibson Guitars.....

And not to leave out the ducks in the Peabody Hotel lobby ;-)

Must try: Pigs over Broadway, Jack’s barbecue.
And Demos steakhouse.
Two excellent places.
When you’re at Jack’s you can walk out the back door cross the alley and see the stars entrance to the Ryman auditorium.

I wouldn’t recommend Memphis right now to visit. Protesters are still gathering in some areas, and I heard they swarmed a car driving through Midtown. The man kept inching along, driving, finally got through it without getting harmed. But apparently was a close call. If he had totally stopped the car, might have turned out differently for him.

Graceland is in an unsafe area even during peaceful times.

Opryland? Is that open?

Opryland was torn down about 20 years ago and a mall put up.

Opryland Hotel isn’t a bad place to visit, and in the evening, there are a couple of bars with live music right in the hotel.no need to be staying there either to enjoy it.

The Grand’Ol Opry if it is open. Even if your not a huge C&W fan. There is something about live music, and occasionally there are some real surprises on the performing artists.

The Dukes of Hazard museum is near the Opryland Hotel. Although to be fair, I haven’t been there.

Opryland? Is that open?

Closed almost a decade and a half ago (1997)

Make the trip to Memphis and visit Graceland.

Sort of like going to seen the Statute of Liberty while on a trip to Boston. Roughly the same distance.

Given that a lot of things may be closed, maybe the Parthenon, Ryman Auditorium, the Opry, Country Music Hall of Fame, Hermitige

Thanks, I actually meant the Opryland resort/hotel. I thought they have some things to do there.

The State Capital building is a beauty made largely of Tennessee marble. I live in North Carolina. Our capital building, whose dome looks like a pimple, is a doghouse compared to Tennessee’s.

Raleigh’s a great place to live, though.

Avoid anything on the East side of Nashville. Loveless Cafe is an experience, but it is quite far out of town, I went there once and was not impressed.

If you can drive 120 miles, Point Park, Lookout Mountain in Chattanooga is very pretty. You can’t drive through Chattanooga and miss driving over Missionary Ridge. Could combine with trip to Jack Daniels Museum.

The Hermitage in Nashville is always pretty if they haven’t made it politically correct. Storm damage to trees a few years ago.

And my math was inadequate - I should have said ‘quarter of a century’ instead of ‘decade and a half’, but yes, the hotel is impressive.

It is best not to slow down or stop while in Memphis. Don’t go in for fast food and avoid traffic.
