Just a note. I just had a conversation with my neighbor who is the controller of a medium-sized apple packer. Since the lockdown has been in effect and the schools are closed their market for smaller-sized apples has disappeared.

The schools were a large market for small apples. So now, they are putting these apples back into bins and hoping to be able to pack them at a later date if orders show ups

In the meantime, the apples will be getting riper and when they become too ripe to pack they will be sent to the processor for juice or sauce.

In addition, the demand for grocery packs like clamshell and bags has also fallen.

Also, the prices have drastically fallen as well, so the growers will be taking a big financial hit for this crop.

I understand all that. I get this whole shut down has understandably affected supply and demand. But that doesn’t justify the big players manipulating the outcome.

Sad, strange times we’re in for sure.
