Why do you suppose the elderly women were ignored when the men were not? Could it be that women usually outlive their spouse and the husband was not there to advocate for her?
Neither had spouse as visitors....but their children would come. If a man hit his buzzer, someone would run. If a woman did the same....nothing would happen timely. And sometimes was totally ignored.
