Vacations are booked months in advance, and even a week ago we had people on here downplaying this and comparing it to the flu. It was only 8 days ago that Trump announced closing the border with Europe, and in my lifetime, I don't recall that ever happening. No, they did NOT have to have known it was a distinct possibility. The speed and ferocity of this crisis is unprecedented … which means it has NO precedent.

Personally, I have taken a lot of foreign vacations in my life and always come across someone who tells me how risky it is for me to go to X, and aren't I worried? My response has always been that I have a better chance of being shot in Chicago than I do wherever I am going. Well, there are those that say the virus does not do well in heat, so are you safer in your northern climate city still in winter, or sitting on a beach in DR or Mexico or the Carib in 80+ degree heat?

Let’s hope it turns out better than the 1804 massacre! Killed all whites and even part whites. Yes, the Haiti Massacre but it one island!

The Dominican Republic is as corrupt as corrupt can be. I’d bet real money the situation is resolvable with a moderate bribe to the right person.

We are stuck in the UK. Came to visit grand-kids. Singapore Airlines cancelled our return flight. We found a replacement flight a day later. And we had a place to stay so not such a big deal

My small apartment complex in Panama doubles as a B&B. We have a couple now from California vacationing here. They are a security officer and a nurse by occupation. His employer is demanding he end his vacation and return to the States but there’s no assurance right now that Panama will let him leave or that America will take them in.

I think they’d rather stay here for the time being and I like the idea of having a registered nurse on the premises just in case something happens here.

Panama has slightly over 100 confirmed cases but none of them are in our province about six hours by bus from Panama City where most of the cases are. The government, however, has instituted a national curfew and halted practically all international travel as well as most commerce except groceries, pharmacies, clinics and hospitals. The Panama Canal is open but people are not allowed to embark or disembark the ships without a mandatory 14-day quarantine.

My son and his family returned from a trip to Fiji this weekend. They left before any of this chaos started. They were temperature checked when they got off the plane in Fiji but came home with no such check. According to my son, there were no cases in Fiji but the locals said that more people die in their country by falling coconuts.

Especially when the other half of the island is Haiti. No thank you.

I was thinking the same. There is another mode of transportation besides air. There have to be boats that can hired to bring you from DR to Florida.

But probably wouldn’t consider this unless it lingers on.

Trump said in a press conference he’s sending the military to round up 700 Alabamans stuck in Peru.
