I have worked with people who have either communications or journalism degrees. The majority of them , As you said, are only good at typing fast or looking pretty on camera. They don’t know history, they don’t know current affairs, and they don’t have any common sense whatsoever.

I once worked with someone who was a communications major in college but ended up not working in the news media industry. That was one of the most frustrating people to work with because they thought since they have a communications degree they were the best person To “Communicate” any bit of information to any other employee or customer, etc. Almost every email was written like a news article designed to be understood By someone with a middle school level education. An email that should’ve been one or two sentences would end up being several paragraphs containing so much superfluous and useless “information“ you had to read it several times to figure out what they were trying to say. And if you dear only sent an email that has a few sentences but quickly and concisely Conveys all the necessary information, they will almost always write a two or three paragraph “response” to it about how it was confusing and how it made them feel.

I was just talking to the father of a communications major over the weekend. He was our Uber driver. He told us how well his daughter was doing with her 4 year communications degree from a prominent university. She had made over $900 Friday night as a cocktail waitress at the MGM Casino in Springfield, MA. She is 27 years old and very attractive according to her dad.
