Wow...what a story about your uncle...So glad he survived but so so sorry for his pets and home/belongings—esp. in a house he built himself** I know I have talked about what I would do in event of a SHTF event regarding pets...So hard to think about...
And I do remember reading about Paradise...shut off by the fires :(
I posted numerous threads about those fires in 2018...To keep Freepers living there and with loved ones updated...My son and a dear friend live in Bay area, so I was watching... Like you say, when I posted those threads, some here were without empathy.
** Sorry he cannot rebuild...but maybe someone in the family will do a rebuild as a legacy tribute. Hats off to him as it sounds like he has a lot of talent to do what he did. Glad he has relatives in Chico.
