Better ask for a rifle. A friend of mine gave a handgun to his brother. Turns out that was a federal crime. Evidently you can freely give handguns up and down the family tree (to parents and to children), but not to anyone else without paperwork.
The brother was the cautious type. So he decided to play it safe, and give the handgun back.
Side note: This happened quite a few years ago. I dont know what the law is like now.
You can “loan” a gun to a family member for as long a period of time as you want.
So he could give it to a parent to hand to the brother?
Huh?
I do not think thats correct, if it is most of Texas is going to the federal lockup.
The law is the same, but the statute of limitations is 5 years, IIRC.
