As a veteran teacher, I strongly disagree with your last sentence. Ive taught with some very, very liberal teachers. But not a single one of them would approve of bullying a kid. We all hate it.
The problem is with the school administrators. The bad ones put their careers - and their bonuses - first. In my neck of the woods, school principals get monetary bonuses for reducing suspensions. And they get fast-tracked for promotions. So they are strongly motivated to just tell little Johnny not to do that again. But of course little Johnny will do it again.
What about the good principals? Their hands are tied by the higher-ups. Folks in central administration put public relations first. Gotta keep suspensions down. Cant have the police arresting any kids.
Its a damn shame.
