The CNN troops are all revved up and ready to go for impeachment: face paint on, warrior chants in the break room. The last thing CNN would want would be to demoralize the troops with talk of a possible pause in the inexorable march toward impeachment!
And so it was that Joe Lockhart, who served as Bill Clinton's press secretary during his impeachment, got his knuckles rapped when, appearing on this morning's New Day, he suggested that the Democrats might be seeking a deal with the Trump White House for a pause in the impeachment proceedings. The deal would offer the pause in return for the White House's agreement to provide documents, and testimony by White House aides.

Lockhart obviously has inside info. They don’t have the votes and they are flailing over what to do next.

PS: and yes, since Lockhart’s appearance, Pelosi did announce that they were proceeding with articles of impeachment. But that could also be a tactic trying to up the pressure on the White House.
I think if the Rats try and weave in Russia as the motivation for impeachment (the Mueller crap), they won’t have the votes. It will be a bridge too far.
"See, here's the deal: we want to impeach you. We want that very much. But, right now, we don't have any evidence. Heck, to be honest, we can't even come up with a crime you've committed. So, here's our proposal -- let's take a pause, and you can provide documents and testimony that might help us impeach you. Then we can resume and try to screw you over in a few months. It's doable. Today's ‘journalists’ have made this a necessity. They don't report facts without their own spin. They don't do investigative reporting - unless it fits their ideology and narrative, and they are much more interested in their byline or face time on television than they are on professionalism. They've failed society, and need to be marginalized.
What exactly is “abuse of power”? This is what they were touting yesterday. Is it a catchall phrase they can throw anything they want to in, or does it have a specific definition that is in a statute that can be adjudicated?
They’ve also been saying “Obstruction of Congress” which is equally silly and made-up.

It could very well be that Nancy knows she doesn’t have the votes and is letting this play out to get the Democrats out of this predicament.
Consider this: Nancy knows Schiff blew it in the Intelligence Committee hearings and Nadler’s choice of Pamela Karlen as a witness who bullied Barron Trump alienated a lot of independents in their little drama yesterday. She is also well aware there are 31 seats in Trump-leaning districts now held by Democrats, that could be in jeopardy.
So, draft Articles of Impeachment, bring them to a floor vote, let the 31 Dems vote against the Articles and it’s a win-win for Nancy.
She can claim to the far-left constituency she “tried” to bring a case against Trump but because of the 31 no-votes, it didn’t go forward. She also provides cover for the 31 so they can claim the evidence wasn’t there to impeach and this will, hopefully, mollify the Trump voters to re-elect the Dems to those seats and she retains the Speakers position.
Pelosi knows it’s highly unlikely 20 Republicans in the Senate are going to vote to convict Trump. Especially in an election year. She also knows her boy Schiff has way too many skeletons in his closet that could turn this impeachment upside down in a hurry and she could lose the majority for several cycles and she would get the blame.
This is certainly a “left-field” theory, but at the end of the day, all Nancy cares about is retaining the Speakers position and she knows she will lose it if impeachment goes forward.
It could work out that way. Many think Pelosi wouldn’t bring articles to the floor if she didn’t have the votes. That makes sense to me.
At Pelosi’s age and her diminishing capacity, I don’t see her looking beyond this congress as speaker.

ridiculous “deal” proposal. we’re going to get all the documents and testimony we need to destroy the Dems in the Senate ... Trump and the rest of us want the Dems to poop or get off the pot ASAP, because regardless of their next step, they’ve already set into motion the forces that will destroy the Dem party in 2020 ...
NO WAY can POTUS waive privilege.
So, CNN will only allow certain “rumblings” on the shows, and not others (that they don’t want spoken).
