Human Freedom is much like water. Water can be restrained from flowing for a period of time, but eventually it builds up pressure and flows freely.
I find it wonderful that the freedom desired by American Citizens is desired by everyone in the world. While we are fighting politically to keep it here, it is sprouting up all over the world.
Human souls need freedom to grow spiritually and souls are beginning to sprout.

I used to believe this, too. I read Natan Sharansky & Ron Dermers, The Case for Democracy - The Power of Freedom to Overcome Tyranny and Terror, and saw it as justification for overthrowing Saddam Hussein. I believed in the thesis of the book.
Events since have proven to me that many simply do not have the cultural/religious/political background to desire freedom in the sense Americans view it. The Iraqis certainly were not able to take advantage of the opportunity afforded them. I no longer believe the thesis universally applies.
