World Champions of 1969, the New York Mets.

Gil Hodges would pass away in 1972 at the relatively young age of 47. He also served in the Marines in World War II.

The Orioles would return to and win The Series in 1970. The Mets would not win another championship until 1986.

Nice retrospective of the 1969 World Series. I remember the miracle Mets stunned the powerful Orioles.

I believe they had the youngest average age of any MLB roster that year. Having World Series magician Yogi Berra as 1B coach was probably a bigger influence than is remembered.

The Mets would win in 1986 with Davey Johnson, the man who made the last out for the Orioles in 1969, as the Manager. Thanks for the post. I remember sitting in class in school listening to one of those small transistor radios that one of the guys had smuggled in. Great memories.
